Rather sad to hear of this.

Redwall was a cracking series of books, and listening to Jakestown was a constant of my growing up, coming back home on a Sunday teatime after being driven around the arse end of nowhere in my Dads van, with Brian on the radio waxing lyrical in the background about the docks before putting on a bit of Mario Lanza.

Very sad. I read his books religiously when I was a kid, and always hoped to write him a letter or bump into him somewhere and say "thanks."

Vastly underrated as a Scouse icon....20 million books sold worldwide? I'd say he's more well-known than any local (excepting the Beatles) in recent times. I grew up in the States, and every kid I knew read his books.

Thanks for the stories, Mr. Jacques....
