Dubai and Liverpool FC

What would other clubs supporters do or have done?

Surely there must be other precedents from around the world which we can lend from?

In regards to a club the size of Liverpool, this is, as far as i'm aware, unique.

IMUSA had a really good crack at it before the Glazer takeover, but ultimately lost out, but you have to respect them for getting off their arses and having a go.

You also have to applaud FC United which was borne out of the aforementioned struggle.

IMO What WE have in our favour are 2 things

1)The financial situation of Tom Hicks and George Gillett is far worse than that of The Glazers and they didn't have a stadium to build.

2)Hick's ego, the Glazer's didn't really seem arsed, but as i've said earlier, Hicks has an ego the size of Lescott's forehead and is stung fairly easily.

In my opinion, I can easily see this dragging out into next summer, that's if Dubai don't lose interest, which is a very real possibility.

The key to all of this is the Royal Bank of Scotland and Wachovia, as they would essentially sign Hicks and Gillett's death warrant for them, all's they have to do is refuse the loan extension in January.

To be fair, i've also heard that it isn't imperative for Dubai in the short term to get 100% of the club, just as long as they secure over 50% therefore giving them control, and that could also in theory pander to the ego and business interests of George and Tom, and they would then also see a return on the Stadium, which seems to have been their prime objective up until last week.

The above scenario has been put to them both, but alas, they were not interested at the time.

That is the answer then!. We should target Royal Bank of Scotland and Wachovia with a mass email campaign ]promiseing to boycott all potential sources of income for G&H

The pressure needs to continue to be put on the owners and putting the attention on the bank is for me the way forward.

Any protests etc outside the banks would generate media interest from around the world and the banks will not want this kind of bad publicity, especially when its such a difficult financial climate they will not want their bank in the news when they are trying to attract business.

Gillett and especially Hicks can take abuse all day and night as its what they are used to thanks to their business dealings.

coop/andy you may know but im 90% sure i was reading somewhere that DIC own/sharehold around 10% RBS if so perhaps they are just waiting for the refinance to come around

Maybe a demo on the Kop akin to Truth Day. But this time the truth about G&H. They'll brush off straightforward anti-American abuse so it needs to be fact-based on their broken promises.

Coop

Just wondering if you have heard any ramblings about a takeover in late september/October just something ive been told is floating around.

It maybe utter bollocks but just wondering if anything has been passed to you about that time.

The September/October date was when the owners had to prove they had the finances together to build the new stadium so unless whoever told you regards the takeover had misheard his/her information i dont know.

As regards the takeover i have only heard what Andy put in the original post in that the offer is there for the owners but they currently are refusing to accept it but whether they buckle closer to the time of refinancing i dont know.

I know there are rumours flying about a bit since that Dubai have already bought the club but want to keep it quiet for now but i can assure thats complete bull or at least someone best inform Dubai about it then.

If Dubai had bought us the stadium would be getting built now and Rafa would not be penny pinching.

The current owners have brought nothing but shame on Liverpool FC and the sooner they depart and let someone who at least have the finances to take us forward like Dubai have then the better.

I don't see how people protesting outside a bank would influence how the bank would operate; the bank will follow whatever course of action it feels will give the best chance of getting it's money.

To a huge bank like RBS, protests outside it's HQ, and the threat of some customers closing down their current accounts won't really add up to a hill of beans in the grand scheme of things.

Cheers mate i was a bit skeptical myself when i was told but i thaught you never know obvously its something that isnt going to happen around that date then.

The information given today really sums it up, they would recieve a profit from doing fuck all and still they are holding out for me, its shows how shit some people are in this world when it comes to business or money.

scrap that its HSBC :wallbutt:

It is HSBC that DIC are involved in mate but they also have a lot of power wthin the finance world due to their portfolio.

I would imagine a bank like RBS would rather have Dubai Holding/DIC on their side then against them especially against a high risk duo like Hicks and Gilett.

Surely then the time to apply pressure was when the original bridging loan was re-financed onto the shoulders of the club, nowithstanding the weasel words of holding companies, blah, blah, blah.

Things have changed though in that when Dubai made the offer that Andy has described in the original post both Gilett and Hicks were hoping to get the finance for the stadium and this would put the Americans in a stronger position.

Now the stadium is cancelled this makes the Dubai offer more attractive (daylight robbery for me considering what they have actually done).

In the run up to the refinance in January both owners will know whether or not the bank will give them an extension and if the banks will not oblige them then in all fairness i would expect the Dubai offer to fall.

I know we have heard it all before but the owners now have to think 'do we take the £60 million profit each now or risk getting next to nothing in January if the banks refuse the extension'.

Well Wachovia is one of the worst hit of the financial crisis in the US, so hoepefully they will be even more willing to put pressure on the cowboys.

The yanks should get down on their knees and thank god anyone is still interested in buying the club with the amount of debt they have put us into without even a new stadium on the horizen, to be honest offering them 60 million each is far too much to give to these carpet baggers...cheeky fucking bastards. DIC should reduce it and keep on reducing the offer for every fucking week that goes by. How can the yanks not sell? There is now another serious club to compete with for a champions league place along with chelsea and united and arsenal, refinancing yet to come.... a few defeats out on the pitch between now and christmas will leave the yanks seriously twitching you would think.

I'm just resigned to them sticking around till at least next summer or maybe untill the time we don't qualify for the champions league, qualifying keeps us and them ticking along but failing to qualify would leave us fucked but it might get rid of them.

Its just a horrible horrible scenerio all round. Ideal situation is that they just fuck off now and don't push the club to the absolute limit in their pursuit for more money but I wouldn't be on it.

The reality is lads if we dont get rid of those 2 cunts soon were fucked, if they stay there is no transfer budget next season, I mean not 1 cent is gona be given to Rafa(or somebody else more likely) to fund players, and with the way City Spurs and Villa are spending money it wont be to long before there ahead of us, and when that happens(not if when) we'll start a major slide players will leave H&G will pocket the money and then fuck off when were Relegated or down that end of the Table, The reality is this could happen people might say we'll never be another Leeds and yes we might not go that far but if Hicks is here in 2 years we can kiss goodbye to Torres Maschereno and the clubs pride. The man who deserves to be slaughterd for this is Moores and the fact he can sit in Anfield on matchday like hes done no wrong is beyond a joke!

Spot on!

For a leech, basically it all comes down to what is more profitable.

1. Taking the 60M now or

2. Continue to tap the club of it’s assets.

So far they’ve got their initial "investment" back. There’s 60M last year that seems to be missing and probably has found it’s way to the yankee pockets. Then there’s the 60M for the stadium, what’s happening to that?

My guess is the Hicks/Gillette quarrel was about this. Gillette wanting the fast 60M and Hicks expecting more the Gordon Gekko way.

Unless some Arab Prince shows us mercy, which I really can't get myself to believe, we are as you say fucked.

Us the fans will survive however and from the ashes a new Liverpool FC will arise.

All it takes really is "an offer they can't refuse". So c'mon my Arab friends, it's time to play hardball.

Potential takeover news

Hope this cheers a few people up...

The Americans are back talking to DIC, DIC are in the process of reapproaching us with an increase to their previous offer that brings it alot more closer to what the yanks want.

Both Hicks and Gillett will listen to the offer and are now willing to sell as they realise they are now at a dead end and can take the club no further.

This is the first time Hicks has considered selling, and he has informed DIC of his desire providing the offer meets his needs.

This was all going on back end of last week by the way.
