Scary, how can an experienced player make so many fundamental basic errors. I didn't know much of Poulsen before he arrived how has he fared at his other clubs? I know he had a reputation as a bit of an animal not averse to the odd wild lunge but surely he has some strengths to his game?

Was he in the Sevilla side that won the UEFA Cup that time?

At the risk of stating the blindingly obvious, we needed a specialist defensive midfielder but it's not like we could afford a decent one and Miereles too. And personally I'm glad we spent more on the attacking midfielder than a defensive one (though playing Miereles out of position negates that good sense).

Only his family would deny that Poulsen's piss poor, but he's an indicment of The Tumours rather than Hodgson, surely?

Edited to say: Christ, just looked at those highlights. Is the guy George Weah's Danish cousin by any chance? Absolutely abysmal.

Whenever I saw him for Sevilla, he looked really good. Apparently he was poor for Juventus.

All that matters is how he performs for us though really and second half at OT aside, he's been shite, in my opinion.

He's just getting bypassed by younger players. He played 18 games in serie A for Juve last season, they wanted rid of him. He was the worst Poulsen of the three in the Danish squad in South Africa. But the main problem with him is that he offers way less than Lucas both defensively and offensively. And he will just get worse due to his age.

Overall a strange decision by Hodgson. Possibly Roy just wants some familiar faces around to make the transfer to managing a side with huge expectations easier.

No he isn't.

He offers no where near as much defensively as Spearing and no where near as much offensively as Shelvey.

I'd play them both before him.

The whole team got slated - except the goalkeeper (Anders Lindegaard) that replaced an injured Sørensen after Denmark went down 2-0. United are after him - we've been scouting him as well.

The game against Portugal is a game that should've suited Poulsen. He would get plenty to do defensively and that's where his strength lies. He had a nightmare. It happens.

Every players makes mistakes - how about Gerrard pass to Drogba last year. Then he's shit aswell I guess? Good players have bad games more likely.

Poulsen has had a bad start to his Liverpool carreer, but it sure doesn't help when the teams as a whole are strugling and he's playing games he really shouldn't, Blackpoll e.g.

I'm sying this in order to defend him, cause I do think he'll struggle with the high pace in th PL, but he should be played to his strength. It's like playing Meireles at the right, it's just not naturel for him do to the job you'd normally expect of an attacking minded winger.

Poulsen shouldn't be in our strongest 11. That's not saying he can't do a job for us, but Hodgson should know what to expect of him.

It's strange because he always looked very good for Sevilla, very composed without being spectacular and a link between defence and attack. But I think everyone in that Sevilla side around 2005-2007 looked a lot better than they actually were - that's not to say they were a team of average players as they clearly weren't, they did function together brilliantly as a team however and the team were a lot greater than the sum of its parts.

It's maybe a combination of that, him being a few years older past his peak and English football being a lot faster. But I find it difficult to believe someone could thrive in a technically demanding league like Spain and then make basic passing errors over here. But he'd hardly be the first player to have a great 2 or 3 season spell only to drift into obscurity for the rest of his career.
