i am going to see it for a fourth and last time on my own on thursday so i can appreciate it. unless someone else wants to go. i don't think there has been another scene in film history that has made the hairs stand up on the back of my neck than when the enterprise is first revealed, it was like being reunited with an old buddy.

Is that an open invite to the forum?

Traitor

- Guy Pearce as an FBI agent chasing moslem extremist Don Cheadle (only thing I've seen him in before is Crash. He was excellent in that too. Must find more of his stuff). Cheadle is an American citizen and former soldier, starts off selling detonators in the middle east and promptly gets in with a bunch of nutters and travels the world with ideas of bombing the shit out of the west.

A couple of really good twists and a reasonably plausible story line. Thoroughly absorbing. Give it a go.

7.6 Jihads

__

You should watch Hotel Rwanda, mate. Cheadle is magnificent in that.

Men in Black 5/10. Much prefer the sequel.

Rambo; first blood. 8.2/10. The breakdown at the end is very good acting on Stallones part and I love a movie not being distracted with the excruciating pain that having a female counterpart brings.

Mystic River - 9/10

Somehow this gem had passed me by. If you haven't seen it, I heartily recommend it. Sean Penn is like a younger version of De Niro in it. Great acting. Great story.

I am Legend - 6/10

Not bad, not great either. Different sort of Will Smith role. Quite eerie to watch New York deserted. Whole story a bit iffy.

Tonight I might watch 3:10 to Yuma as I've not seen that one before and I had heard it was good. I'm also going to watch 'No Country for Old Men' in the next few days as I've heard very good things about that.

You need to read the book of I Am Legend first. Then you will realise what a huge failure the film actually is.

No Country For Old Men is outstanding.

Yep G, Mystic River is excellent.

Frost/Nixon 7/10. A real slow burner, my kinda shit. Frank Langella is outstanding playing a Great Man. He comes across with immense power and gravitas, brilliant performance. Of course, it all just builds up to the one scene where Nixon admits all, but it's dramatic enough nonetheless. Pretty much exactly what you'd expect, but decent.

Tyson - the documentary.

Riveting stuff, based around new interviews with him and interspersed with archive clips of his whole career.

The clips are great - they seem to have a licence to show literally every fight of his that was ever screened right up to the Kevin McBride debacle, and there's even amateur stuff from the late '70s and early '80s which is particularly fascinating.

I'd forgotten how absolutely terrifying he was in the ring.

He cuts an almost tragic figure now, I felt a slight bit of sympathy for him despite some of the awful things he's done.

Horrific news about his little daughter this week.

9/10

Outstandingly boring! 3:10 to yuma is brilliant though. It's very easy to watch again and again.

Bale is good but Crowe is excellent.

The Echelon Conspiracy

A bit fucking silly really. Bloke receives a mobile phone from a mystery source. It directs him to a casino with text messages and he wins lots of money. Then he starts getting text messages teling him to do silly politically motivated shit. And that. well, sort of anyway.

I watched this last night when instead I could have been lording it up in Simon's new thread.

5 nokias out of 10 and that's being fairly generous.

3:10 to Yuma - 8/10

Watched this last night. Thought it was a very good film. Great acting from Crowe. Bale was good too. The plot was straightforward enough, and I thought the best of the film was the interplay between Bale and Crowe as their relationship and regard for one another changed on the journey.

Well worth a watch, even if you are not particularly into westerns.

* I am off for a few days and I'm catching up on films I've missed. I plan to watch 'No Country for Old Men' and 'The Curious Life of Benjamin Button'. Ratings to follow in the next few days.

Sleepers (After someones review on here) - 8/10

Posts like this are my rationale for getting this thread made sticky. I've watched plenty of films after reading reviews of them on here. I'll be watching 3:10 to Yuma because some of you girls have said it's a good film. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered. Hotel Rwanda is another at the top of my list and there are a good few others I attribute watching to reading this thread.

Whilst I'm here:

"Nightwatch"

Fuck off.

Watched half an hour of it and decided I'd rather saw off my own feet than watch any more. Stupid, stupid film.

1.3 Karate fighting vampires out of 10. I think that says it all. If you like karate fighting vampires, this is for you. If you're over the age of 9, give it a miss.

You were all spectacularly correct about Frost/Nixon. The actor who portrayed Nixon was fantastic and I thought it was a lot more favourable of Nixon than it needed to be , as someone who likes him this pleased me. I can understand why someone would dislike it but I'd can't give it below an 8.7.
