Finding the owner of an Ipod

How would I go about finding the owner of an Ipod that was handed into my work? Can I just take it the Apple shop?

Probably yes, they'd have the owners debit/credit card details from there iTunes account I'd imagine.

My Ipod (classic) doesn't have WiFi on it, so I reckon the job wouldn't be done at all.

So I need to find the owner and if they are female, smash them? And in order to this I take the slightly battered device to an Apple shop, then leave the owner with a slightly battered device.

You tried giving Merseyside and City a ring, see if they can mention it? The Roger Philips and Pete Price shows could do the trick. They might not listen but family or mates might do. They'd just need to know something personal about it - songs or photos? - to confirm it's theirs.
