The probably haven't picked a contractor yet. When they do, the contractor will decide the start date. The only thing we should worry about is the finishing date.

As the article says:

Laing O'Rourke, which is currently working with developer Grosvenor on The Paradise Project in Liverpool, has also joined the project development team.

Lang O’Rourke are the largest civil engineering company in the UK.

Normally you develope the project first, and then you pick a contractor. Have they picket a contractor yet? If so, then the start date is a relevant question.

If Laing’s are on the project development team then they will almost certainly be the main contractor.

Laing’s are not the cheapest civil engineers in the UK but they are well established with a good reputation for completing projects on-time.

You'd be one othe 90K that go to watch us against Derby in the carling cup on a mid winters weekday evening would you?

On the other hand, being a long term investment, shouldn't you design your stadium for the maximum capacity you think you can fill? It costs no more on the night to have a stadium which is not filled for a particular game, you just make less money for that game. That minimum attendance should not dictate your capacity. Barcelona don't fill their stadium for every game, but they make more money on the nights that they do.

the stadium will definately happen, the biggest hurdle the yanks faced was the loan they have now secured, the can now use 60m to start building and the secure the second loan against the stadium itself

No, the biggest hurdle they will face is that we can barely afford the repayments on the money they used to buy the club, let alone another £300M for the stadium.

I suppose that very much depends on how often you are likely to fill to capacity (or thereabouts) and if the costs outweigh the benefit.

Why are all people on the waiting list assumed to be fair weather fans?

i know what you mean Gaz, im certainly not one and ive been on it for ages. I still go the games but to say I own one will be a dream when it happens.

I wont hold my breath the waiting list is probably a blag it is the ticket office after all.

If anything I can see cost of raw materials sinking in the years to come, so hopefully this deal doesn't involve fixed prices. Anyone know how this usually works?

The cost of steel is rising all the time. Laing O'Rourke will be be tied to an Agreed Maximum Price and will factor in an element of risk into their tender with fixed price and contingency allowance.
