Theoretically, we have decent cover for both Coutinho's roles.... Salah and Mane for the wide attacking positions, Lallana for the deeper midfield role. On the other hand, he's probably the best footballer we've got.

Obviously, we’d be a stronger team with Keïta and Van Dijk than we were with just coutinho. With another top quality forward we’d be genuine contenders.

Not sure how it's obvious. We become a more solid team, and have a central midfielder that is streets ahead of the current crop, but we have lost a huge, huge chunk of our creativity, and the only player that regularly scores from outside the box.

 

It's a conversation we shouldn't have to be having, but no doubt it'll happen again in 6-12 months.

I thought it was blindingly obvious. Coutinho isn’t that good in midfield, he’s better from the left. We’ve got Mané to play there, Keïta, who is a genuine baller in midfield - much better than Coutinho there; and Van Dijk who is an enormous improvement on our other centre halfs.

 

We sacrifice someone who can score or create a goal out of nothing, but we become much, much stronger in midfield and defence. Plus we still have one of the best front 3’s around.

 

So, there’s no question, I would take Van Dijk and Keïta over Coutinho every day of the week. Add another forward and we’re absolutely laughing.

Coutinho is a brilliant footballer, but I didn't exactly like him playing in center midfield.

 

Now that he's sold, I'm sitting here thinking that Mane and Salah can't play every game, and we need an attacker to join.

 

It's weird.  How do you replace Coutinho? I think that Keita's ability from the center of the park would improve the team, and we need another forward to rotate with Mane/Salah/Firmino.

That said? VVD, Keita, and a top GK would likely make us MUCH better by the end of the month, than we were at the beginning.
