Still a great eat though I bet.

Fancy doing a weekend in Bray, Fat Duck and the Waterside Inn two nights running. It'd hammer the wallet if you did it properly with all the wine but what a weekend.

Thought about it, but generally I only go to really nice restaurants if I can expense it. Or someone else can. You have to be a proper gastronome to justify shelling out 500 sheets on dinner. Or very rich. The weekend you're talking about could get you to New York instead!

Twice!

That's the trick. Ate at Joel Robuchon's place in Paris on someone elses tab.

The wife really isn't in to food the way I am so difficult to justify more than £150 on a meal for the two of us.

As you say if you're going somewhere for fine dining the last thing you want to do is keep checking the price of what you're ordering.

L'Atelier - not what you call big portions either. Beautiful food though.

There was 7 of us, we all had the taster menu and I don't know how many bottles of wine. I wouldn't even want to try and guess the bill for that night.

4 of us did Le Manoir and that was over £900, we stayed at the local travel lodge though!

EDIT: Wrong forum.

I tried to do his recipe for chilli once, took fucking ages, a right faff, making a butter that then melts into the meat. Me and wife sat down to eat it, had a mouthful each and agreed it was shite. I'm more than aware of the possibility that my shite skills fucked something up and rendered it the worst thing I've ever tasted but I was gutted after spending hours on it.

Now he's got a range of ready meals at Waitrose and the same chilli is one of them, I'm going to have to buy one to see if I fucked it up.

I've seen that chilli one. Quite interesting, but absurdly protracted and complicated for a bowl of fucking chilli. But I suppose that's the whole point of that programme.
