Anybody have one? One you keep coming back to, was trying to think of mine earlier. There are a few I have read more than once, There are some I have enjoyed but would not read again. Think mine is a toss up between "Lord of the Rings", been reading since the late seventies and have lost count of the amount of times I have read it, or them.

Other one i really like is "The Mote in God's Eye" by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. Story of Alien contact, re-read it again not long ago and still thoroughly enjoyed it.

Honourable mention goes to "Ringolevio" by Emmett Grogan, might have been in my top two if I could find a copy to read again, brilliant story about a lad growing up in New York and his life after, brilliant story in my opinion and would highly recommend it

I think I've bought "Watership Down' at least three or four times (usually in airports before a flight), so I'll go with that.

I have some great war history books that I like to re-read on occasion. There is one on Midway called 'Shattered Sword' that I read twice in six months it was so interesting. More of a Japanese perspective on the battle.

One of :

Filth by Irvine Welsh

A Prayer For Owen Meaney by John Irving

Cat's Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut

good choices - I have signed copies of both 'Filth' and 'Porno'. A friend of mine knows Irvine Welsh quite well, and knew I was a fan.

How to choose just one.

I think my favourite might be "The Irish Troubles" by J. Bowyer Bell.

I studied history at university, and that book was easy to read, inforrmative, and incredibly moving.

"The Honourable Schoolboy" by John Le Carre. All three of the trilogy are amongst my favourites, but that is his finest book, IMHO.

"Small Gods" by Terry Pratchett. A humanist's take on religion; I read it at least once a year.

Good call on "The Mote In God's Eye". It's so different than most science fiction--it almost requires a second or third reading just to take in every thing that's going on.

The Damage Done. Compelling but utterly sick to think of the depravity another human being had to suffer (even a heroine trafficker).

I also enjoy books on the filth that is Al Qaeda, particularly Peter Bergen's ones. Find him excellent.

I have got the damage done, warren fellows. very good book, picked it up in hmv years ago for a couple of quid. had it read within days.

if you like that, read 'papillon'. 4 times longer, 10 times better.
