They are going to stay up no matter what - get it done and dusted now.

A points reduction doesn't cost them any money. While they don't have alot of points on the board, they have even less money in the bank.

It sets a precedent going forward for others caught cheating.

Best possible outcome for Everton, 10 points probably reduced to 6 or 8 with the remaining suspended, and they stay in the league because there is no way they are getting less points than the promoted 3. 

 

It makes sense for the relegated teams from last season to cause a fuss though because this punishment really should have come down before the end of last season, or atleast before the start of this season.

Spot on. This punishment does nothing for the teams who suffered at the hands of Everton's cheating.
