Got some big study/polling stuff on the Guardian about the beliefs of Brits, thought this bit on Politics was interesting, and relevant to the conversation yesterday about Scotland, and the one a few days ago about old cunts voting Tory.

Politics 4c971f22-9def-4350-a2e8-cc410eff1dad-338

Do you think the political views of British people in general have changed over the past 10 years?

Yes, become more left wing = 12%
Yes, become more right wing = 28%
Yes, become more centrist = 25%
No, have not changed = 34%

Britons are generally distrustful of political extremes and, when defining their personal outlook on a left/right spectrum, tend to gravitate towards the centre. Only 9% of the population describe their views as either “very left wing” (6%) or “very right wing” (3%). Overall, Britons are marginally more likely to describe their personal political stance as a “left of centre” (36%) than “right of centre” (33%). However, there are some significant demographic differences. It is easy to see why Labour are keen to engage the youth vote, with eye-catching policies such as lowering the top level of tuition fees to £6,000, as 59% of 18-24s define their views as “left of centre”, while just 8% describe themselves as “right of centre”. In contrast, it is crucial that the Conservatives effectively mobilise older voters; 45% of those aged 55+ define themselves as “right of centre” and only 22% as “left of centre”. Britons in all regions are more likely to define their politics as “left of centre” than “right of centre” with the exception of the south-west, south-east, Northern Ireland and west Midlands (where left and right are tied). The regions where residents are most likely to define their politics as “left of centre” are the north-east (56%), Scotland (45%) and Yorkshire and the Humber (41%).

While Britons are more likely to define themselves as “left of centre”, there is a perception that the political views of the population as a whole are more likely to be “right of centre”; 41% of Britons consider the political views of the nation to be “right of centre”, while 26% define the nation’s views as “left of centre”. There is also a perception that the political views of Britons have become more right wing over the past decade; 28% believe this to be the case, while only 12% believe the views of the nation have become more left wing. 25% believe the nation’s views have become more centrist over the past 10 years.

The torys did not have a mandate to impilment savage cuts on public services, put people in dead end zero hour contract jobs and force up to a million of our most vulnerable citizens to use food banks.

The torys have not won an election for almost 30 years, the country have rejected right wing policies. The liberals have aided and abetted them, they have no mandate to implement these policy's on the British people.

The above post helps in my excuse to play 12min of greatest critique of political bullshit ever laid on vinyl. Gil Scott Heron, B Movie.

It's a tepid load of shite, and in fact some audience member has said something along the lines of "no-one fucking cares about this shit, talk about something important".

But any meaningful answer is quickly shat on by David Spasticcuntleby cunting a fucking cunt fuck cunt. You're not funny, or interesting. You're a shit, boring, shit, snivelling, shit fucking cunt.

Somebody actually said that?

Fucking hell.

It was some fat, slobbering, fucking elephant of a woman moaning about scroungers not getting off their arse (despite looking like she'd been airlifted from her sofa into the audience). That people don't want jobs, and if they want to stop using food banks then they just need to work harder etc.

Even if you're that much of a thick, hateful, selfish, fucking cunt devoid of compassion that you have a problem with the people without a job getting £70 a week to live on, this often isn't even them. This is people in work, being paid so fucking little, that they have to go to food banks.

Yeah, it's a lifestyle choice. People fucking love having to work 50 hours a week and then still have to go to their local town hall to fill out a form in order to get a tin of baked beans. Absolutely great stuff for people's sense of dignity and pride.

Whilst she us clearly a cunt, when you have people turning on each other like that, it's symptomatic of a wider issue. The divide and conquer thing seems to be working.

Worrying, isn't it? Particularly as it's the middle orders versus the poorer, when it's actually the financial elite who have shifted the wealth from both to themselves.

Yeah, it sucks. Until people wake up, nothing much will change. The odd spoiled ballot or protest vote won't do anything.

I've had a couple of debates on Facebook recently with friends of friends, both Tories.

One of them said, "90% of people who go to food banks are druggies and piss heads", and the other said "Are food banks really a bad thing?"

I despair about this world at times, I really do.

The sad thing is a lot of people in front of her were nodding away in aggrement.....

I think anyone who votes Tory and knowing what they plan in terms of cuts and what that would mean for people are deep down just not a very nice person.

I know Harmen is Labour but I just don't like her she sounds so false and that stupid Blackadder haircut of hers doesn't help.

She isn't Labour in the slightest.

People vote Tory because they're either thick, a cunt, or both.
