So who should be our next manager?

At this point I can't see how it can be anyone but Alonso. He knows the club, he knows the league, he knows the expectations that come with being Liverpool manager and everything that comes with it. He is doing a great job at Leverkusen. It's a gamble lets be honest but he's constantly being linked with us, Madrid and Bayern. We get first shot at him which is a benefit to us. He is definitely up for coming judging by the way he didn't pour cold water over anything in the press conference earlier.

There are plenty of great young managers out there. I like O'Neil at Wolves and Silva at Fulham but they are both levels below where they need to be. I feel like I need to see more of a body of work from De Zerbi as well, something just feels like it wouldn't work out with him. Can't put my finger on it. With that said, Alonso has only been a manager for circa 18 months. As I said earlier he is a gamble.

Xabi has a couple of years with Sociead reserves as well. It doesn't drastically change the CV but it does dry the wetness slightly from behind the ears.

It'll be Alonso, wouldn't be surprised if it's already agreed something hence today's announcement. They've known for three months, I doubt they've sat on their hands. It's feels similar to when Klopp departed Dortmund, there was a suspicion he'd up here even with Rodgers still in place.

I'd expect Klopp to take a well deserved year off and then take the German job for the next World Cup.

All very sad but to be honest not entirely suprising, I half expected him to leave last summer. He'll leave us in good shape as he's kicked off the rebuild. In fairness he's been very honest, he's knackered and clearly wasn't going to be around for the next five years.

In the modern world of football nine years is a pretty long stint these days. I doubt we'll see a Ferguson type multi-decade reign again at the highest level.

It's been an incredible journey. I couldn't have asked anything more of our manager.

The club must be confident of getting their man (Alonso maybe?) otherwise why is Pep leaving? surely he would have thrown his name in the hat to replace Jurgen the fact he hasnt and said he wants to leave to try management makes me think the club have told him he wont be considered.

Agreed, the fact that both Klopp and his assistants are all going would suggest they've lined someone up. Clearing the deck once Klopp goes.

Feels like a death? It'll be very strange. He will be missed.

Yes, I would say Alonso and Frank are the outstanding candidates of those mentioned so far.

Frank didn't even figure in Code's poll. Nuff said.

I thought you meant a certain Mr Lampard at first. Christ, that would be terrifying.

Because he will not get it, I had to stop at one point with the options, but there is the other option.

Come on Johnny, imagine the internet feuds we can all get into again.

It’s gonna be great, coupled with pro FSG/ anti FSG battles this could be as good for the forum as bringing back the ART.

I suppose I can at least hope he does terribly and quietly revel in our losses and poor form.

There’ll be a good succession plan in place. Klopp will have told them who’s genuinely the best man and there’ll have been no ego about it.
I’m confident we’ll get / have got the right man. We’re very lucky that seemingly the elite level next manager is someone we’d love here.

If Xabi thinks it's a bit early, or wants to defend the title with Bayer, how would people feel about Rafa and Pako as a stop gap?

They know the club and Xabi, so could be a good stop gap. Also mean Xabi doesn't have to immediately fill Jurgens shoes

Nah. His football style is outdated now.

No Rafa and his tactics are done, he like Mourinho in that regard.

Do him and Paco even talk anymore

Bring back the brains Željko Buvač. We should be able to temp him from the German 3rd division
