Solanke is v. poor too -- more so in his pressing during the game, so he wouldnt have been the answer. Lallana has never looked competent in the forward 3 roles, which is now at its most apparent with his slow, broken body. I keep reading that the Lallana/Salah sub. made our heads drop .. but more objectively speaking, it let the Madrid backline push right up the pitch, as we had no speed to get in behind other than Mane. The front 3 has worked like a metronome this season, with the pace of Salah & Mane giving Firmino space to be at his best .. with the lame Adam Lallana giving nothing, Firmino was crowded out, though Mane remained excellent. This is the outcome of the squad investment strategy (whoever has underseen it, group effort or not).

Obviously depending on how fit he was we’d have been better off putting Can on to add a bit of physicality and pushing Wijnaldum up to the left wing, one thing he has got is bags of energy and that energy and pressing is what got Madrid and especially Marcelo so petrified to commit men forward. Lallana was less than useless last night.

I just can't understand how much he's gone downhill since last year. I seem to remember being really annoyed when he got injured last season and our form went really downhill.

Back to his real self?

He was truly terrible before Klopp arrived, then his form picked up and he hit a purple patch. He's clearly not match fit at the moment but I don't ever expect to see him have a purple patch again. Lovely touch, but no pace, no power, he literally hits through the ball like a child when trying to get any distance such as an 18 yard shot or a cross. I don't think I've ever seen a weaker top flight player and I get embarrassed watching him.

He is physically incapable of playing at the intensity required under Klopp.

he is the main instigator of intensity when fit.  He's been out all season, and playing him wide has never worked.  Klopp should have taken off Wijnaldum at the same time, and played Lallana in the midfield with Ings through the middle and Firmino wide.

That is bollocks I'm afraid.
