If Trump does win from here he's going to once again beat the popular vote with the electoral college: it'd be the third time it's happened in six elections this century, with the Republicans profiting each time. I read on 538 the other day that even if Biden wins the popular vote by 2 or 3 points, he's still likely to lose the election - how the fuck is it allowed where the Republicans have an automatic away goal lead? Proper corrupt.

That’s the whole point of the electoral college I think, whether we agree with it or not.

Nate Silver saying Biden likely to win the popular vote by between 5 and 7 million.

How does this happen again? I actually studied this once, but I can't remember how this works.

I guess it's the winner-takes-all nature of the electoral college - so if Trump wins Florida with 51% of the vote he gets all 29 college votes and 49% of the electorate might as well have sat in the house shagging alligators, but if Biden wins California with 90% of the vote he's no better off - he 'just' gets all 55 college votes. It's just fucking ridiculous - they're all voting for the same candidates so why not just total them all up? Even some sort of system where they award the college votes proportionally would be slightly fairer.

I know it's in a roundabout way how it works here - it's a series of local elections, winner-takes-all, which are then totalled up (rather than the votes themselves) but at least here there's a semblance of democracy in that I'm not voting for the same candidate(s) as some fella in Ipswich.

Seems to award disproportionate power to certain groups who are therefore indulged more as a result. You don't have to win to be a winner but he is a winner and all that.
