  2. Der Pass (Pagan Peak) - not bad, but also nothing special, once you remove the attraction of feeling sophisticated watching a non-English European crime drama somehow provides. Is this from the Bridge franchise? The story is, mercifully, completely different. Nice winter stimmung throughout, some strange narrative decisions. Someone once told me that niche porn was the main engine behind self-published novels on Amazon and that one of the niches was something called "Krampus porn". Also, Austrians speak German like proper hillbillies.

Well, there are grammar rules, such as the use of the apostrophe.

Top 5 Westerns Of All Time

At last, The Big Country. On Mann, I like Naked Spur, Winchester 73 is too B-movie for my taste, Bend of the River was a bit boring, and The Man From Laramie I always somehow give up caring and following the plot halfway through. I keep reading it's "Shakespearean", to me, it's more like a western soap. The Far Country was OK, Last Frontier I remember as being pretty silly, as was Devil's Doorway (although it starts as a very interesting and unusual film). The Tin Star and Man of the West I haven't seen in a while.

The Culpepper Cattle Co. and it's a good one.
  7. Salah's goal will be an iconic moment, together with the one when we actually win it, not because it was a turning point in the race, but because it was that beautiful moment when we spontaneously, simultaneously, collectively felt we can turn around and say to other teams supporters what they have been thinking and what we have been thinking for weeks, yes, we are going to win the league.

  13. You may like it. Or if you have or discover Nazi leanings, there are some very uplifitng scenes.
  14. I think the old "there is a good show in there somewhere" would apply here, except every time you think they are finding it, it goes in the wrong direction. Essentially, they're not interested in the book, except that they find the setting intriguing, but don't know what to do with the story. So it turns into something rather pointless.

Rate the last film you watched...

Can You Ever Forgive Me? 5/10 Had high hopes for this (a struggling writer comes up with a way to survive in New York) because my girl Nicole Holofcener co-wrote it, but it's just... not very good. So, no, I can't. The script is relatively pedestrian and you can see why she didn't direct herself. Directing is not exactly accomplished which really isn't helping (overall pacing is odd, some scenes are strangely flat, everything feels rushed). Casting also feels wrong and both leads (Melissa McCarthy, Richard E. Grant) are struggling with how to play a pair of basically unlikable, obnoxious cunts. Story isn't very convincing, the biggest surprise is that it was actually based on true events.

If you replace Catholic with Shia Muslim, "so you don't expect any better", it would be a bit inappropriate, no?

Just make sure you don't trust them even if they come bearing gifts.
  18. Finished The Man In the High Castle 6/10. A testament to my viewer's determination, the fact I stayed to the bitter end. Overall, a pretty impressive failure, mostly silly, with writers and show runners who obviously have an attention span of toddlers. Every time it begins exploring the only interesting thing about it (since they ditched Dick's book very early on), which is what would happen if the Axis powers won the war, the writers get distracted by shiny objects, multiverse portals, horrible fighting and action scenes and everything is in constant danger of descending into some kind of Red Dawn type of nonsense It manages to be excruciatingly boring for the most part, because you just don't care for the characters the writers are constantly trying to position and reposition, interesting characters get killed off, boring characters are killed off and then resurrected for no apparent reason and then killed off again. S3 suddenly becomes interesting because it deals with the Nazi America aspects then S4 is all woke where some powerful black insurrection movement appears out of nowhere and previous resistance in the area is all of a sudden gone from the scene entirely. Everything constantly slides into total silliness, with a crescendo at the end. I think the scene where a character is asked why she needs a gun best illustrates how silly it all is, she is free to reply openly, to fight Nazis coming here from another universe, because the answer is crazy enough to sound like a joke.

War with Iran is it imminent

I think there were at one point something like 3.000 groups and militias fighting against Assad. It's certainly possible that some of them received guns and funding and later became part of ISIS. But saying that the UK and US funded ISIS would be like saying that the Islamist element of anti-Assad rebellion was created by Assad, because he let them all out of jail to go fight in Iraq and kept the routes for fighters to go fight the Americans open for years.
