Even at 31 I would have Muller over Thiago for us given the choice. Would suit our needs better.

You are 31? I wouldn't have put you a day over 30.

I know I was sceptical about this earlier given his age but there does seem to be an awful lot of smoke, so maybe there is something to it.

If true and it happens, I think that Guest is right: it could signal a change in approach. A 4-2-3-1 where we have Fabinho and Thiago sitting would be pretty interesting. I'm guessing it would be Firmino in the middle of the three and then you could play Henderson wide right and move Salah into the middle? I don't like Hendo out wide normally but in a 4-2-3-1 I think he was pretty good there on the rare occasions we played that formation early in his time here.

The other alternative is to play Keita or Minamino as the 10 and then the regular front 3.

It is an interesting question, though, of how we line up best with Thiago. One thing I think it does say, if it happens, is that the club must be really confident in Curtis Jones turning out to be special. I don't think we even look at a 29-year old unless there's a consideration that a)we are in a window where we have maybe 2-3 years to win big trophies before reloading a bit, and b)Jones is going to be a nailed-on starter-quality player, so we don't want to block his progress by signing a potential star who's 24.

Henderson at wide right would be a disaster because he doesn't possess pace now. More likely Minamino/ Keita in the centre behind Bobby flanked by Salah/ Mane.

1/12 on now to join -- if you think he's not going to join there's a small fortune to be made. Personally I think the deal was done the moment Rummenigge name dropped us, but let's see. The club should be aiming for a 60 game season next year across all competitions -- there are plenty of minutes for everyone especially in midfield.

There's going to be some fucking maulings handed out at Anfield this year if he does join.

With the new left back and hopefully a centre back with a new forward there's no reason why we can't have a proper go in the domestic cups. No replays this year either.

He didn't look that great the other night even though his team annihilated Barca.

Have to admit, I was judging him on the YT hightlight vids, saying he was just raking balls out wide and doing the odd bit of skill....I was wrong.  You can't fully appreciate what he does in a highlights video, like Xavi, like Cambiasso, like Modric, like Scholes, a hugely industrious midfielder that specialises in perpetual motion and selflessness.

Being a silky ballplayer, and yet harnessing that with non-stop movement, and offering options all the time, it's a unique skill-set and that's why you get the weird situation where Xavi regards Scholes as a role-model for him, there just hasn't been a lot of players like that.

If we line up with Alisson // TAA-VVD-Gomez-Robertson // Fabinho-Henderson-Thiago // Salah-Mane-Firmino & a bit of depth besides on the bench then the rest of the league might as well just concede now. It'd be the most elegant & self-respectful way to avoid the utter humiliation that'll be unfurled next year. We can sit on the sidelines with the trophy & just save everyone else the hassle.

I did watch it. Yes he's a good player but like others have said he's not unbelievably good like some are suggesting.

You have to know what to look for though.

He's not Fabregas, because he doesn't operate at the top end of the field.

He's not Zidane, because he doesn't float between the lines.

He's not Gerrard, because he's more tactically controlled.

He's not Alonso, because he's more mobile than Alonso.

He's not Mascherano, because he's got more technical ability.

He's not Pirlo, because he actually moves around the pitch.

He's not Fernandinho, because he can hurt you in possession.

His closest comparison you'd recognise is Wijnaldum.  Silk, mixed with graft and intelligence.

It could have been 2 games if the quarter final was 2 legs like normal. 1 game is all you need though.

He was playing against us last season both legs....I can't remember him standing out either.

Anyway I was only commenting on the game from the other night so wasn't giving an overall judgement. He wasn't amazing the other night but some on here apparently think otherwise.
