I played that LP to death when I was at college (25/26 years ago) so don't play it an awful lot now but had it on full pelt last night & it really is spectacular.

 

You sometimes forget he played almost everything on it as well, unbelievable.

He's obviously had a few classics but totally get that. I've also preferred singers with someone with some grit to there voice. I'll take Otis or Sam Cooke over Smokey everyday. And Stax over Motown on general. And as much I listen to Aretha I listen to Etta James more

You put that so much better than me!

I was a motown kid so cant agree on Stax, but that was as raw a label as you could get
