Reebok Classics and Canons at Dawn. WBA v LFC. 21/4/18 12.30 The Hawthorns

Recommended Posts

Jurgen not a happy man, had a few harsh words about WBA:

West Brom produced a "useless comeback" by scoring two late goals to take a point at the Hawthorns, says Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

The hosts were 2-0 down after 79 minutes - Danny Ings and Mohamed Salah on target for the Reds - before goals from Jake Livermore and Salomon Rondon.

However the Baggies will be relegated on Sunday if Swansea beat Manchester City.

"I don't think that point will help West Brom massively, it is a complete waste of points. They don't need it, we would have needed it," Klopp added.

"They are happy now, we are not happy. We stay in the league, they don't stay in the league - it is a strange situation."

--------------------------------------

"West Brom decided not to water the pitch at half-time and that makes it difficult," the German said.

"It makes a massive difference. A team like West Brom do not need a wet pitch, they can do it next year playing on a dry pitch in the Championship."

Luck runs both ways.

We were extremely fortunate in the Man City tie, which should have been much closer than it ended up being if we hadn't gotten lucky breaks. But then today we were extremely unfortunate, in that a few key calls went against us and we dropped points as a result.

If I had offered you two weeks ago, that we would get lucky in the CL quarterfinal against City, but in return we would be unlucky against West Brom in a game that didn't really mean anything, would you have taken it?

Of course you would have, which means I don't think we can really complain too much here.

Hold my drink, I've got this.

We're talking about marginal offside decisions versus clear assaults. The former are far more difficult to make then when you see Craig Dawson absolutely clattering Ings in the box.

It's not about luck, it's about having a ref out there today who was flat out incompetent.

Jurgen proper annoyed there. I like it. It’s been going very well for the players, but today we showed some carelessness again. The players will have an irate manager to help them get their focus and form back, and I’m sure they will.

It’s frustrating because we should have put top four to bed with games to spare, but the way it’s going we might have something riding on the last game of the season now. Chelsea have to keep winning for that to happen though, but our slip has given them something to play for.

Obviously disappointing to blow a two goal lead, but it's another point towards securing top four, no one got injured, and some key players got a bit of a rest.

Not the end of the world.

And if only 2 goals are getting scored, then Mo and Ings are the ones I'd have wanted to do so.

Probably going against the grain here, but it really wasn’t much of a punch, blatant and silly as it was.

There were other things the ref got wrong that cost us much more.

Does not make any odds whether it is a punch to the head or body nor how hard or soft a punch it was. You cannot intentionally strike an opponent and expect to stay on the pitch. It is one of the most basic rules of football. He will get a ban after Monday when they look at it.

I like that he gets pissed off enough about not winning to be a bit snidey and ungracious.

The thing is Klopp doesn't get pissed off if we lose/draw because the other team played better than us, he's generally in good spirits and accepts it graciously.

He only gets pissed off when the other team don't even attempt to have a game of football, just show up to kick the fuck out of our players, have 11 men behind the ball, and hoof it upfield at every opportunity hoping they can get something lucky on the end of it, even if we win he's usually in a bad mood about these teams. And it was additionally frustrating when they employed these snide tactics for a game that will mean fuck all, because their snide tactics have put them at the bottom of the table.

You can tell he loves playing against somebody like Guadiola in comparison, win lose or draw he at least knows he'll get to watch and manage in a good game of football.

Following Liverpool is like having a delinquent son, now and again he does well in his exams or helps you with the shopping and you think he's turned a corner, but then then you come home one day to find he's pawned your jewellery.

that is a rather brilliant analogy, regardless of the accuracy.

But this is the problem, we need to sort out these teams full of grocks and not assume that the ref is going to do it.

We had players in the past who would have had the nous to give it back and sort the snides out.

We cant all play nice football and we need to be a bit smarter.  The chances are that some of the teams that come up for next season will play exactly the same way.

But we should also have a stronger midfield by then. The back 4 looks far better (even with mistakes yesterday) and we should have a deeper squad to call on.

Yesterday was a stumble but post VVD coming in we have not had many. The players looked like they got 2-0 up and took the foot of the pedal with a massive midweek game coming up.

At the end of the day we should have had a pen and Hegazi should have been red carded twice.

If we fuck it up from here its a mental collapse as bad as ever seen.

This is extremely naive nonesense. I do not want our players to be utter shithouses just because in the odd game or two one of the oppos players is a shitehouse and the ref misses what they do.

The missed penalty well it was not missed the ref decided it was 2 players coming together would not have been changed if Ings had been an utter twat in the incident. Same when he got punched in the belly. Ings made it clear to the ref what happened and the ref did nothing. Same when the same player nearly poked Mos eye out. If you think Mo rolling around on the floor would have made the ref act different people are mistaken.

I do not get all this being a bit smarter talk. It all comes down to whether the ref spots the shithousery and acts on it.

Not a single player near him.

This is shocking goal keeping 0e16922e35280951d478abdfae1e8f34.jpg

He specifically mentioned what was happening at every corner, yet you pick a screenshot of the free kick West Brom equalised from. Where there would be nobody near Karius.

The defensive error in that incident was Lovren suddenly breaking the line to drop back, just because he saw Rondon moving out of the corner of his eye and panicked. Since Van Dijk arrived, he has insisted on the defence keeping a high line when defending free kicks, where it would take a peach of a delivery to beat the defensive line AND find an attacker NOT standing in an offside position. If Lovren hadn't panicked, we would have caught 3 West Brom players offside.

Whoever pointed out about Lovren over-focussing on his own 1-on-1 battle and losing sight of the bigger picture is correct. One the one hand, once he has made a decision, he commits fully to it. Trouble is, his decision-making is too often done in isolation and requires others to react to a problem for which they are 50/50 to deal with, at best.

I specifically said Karius should have stayed on his line. If you come for the ball then you need to come and get it. He's no good at doing that so he should stay on his line.

I mean he's not even remotely near it, still about 4 yards away.

Livermore wasn't obstructing him at corners either, he was just standing in front of him - there is a difference.
