Klavan hasn't done much wrong in the last few games, but don't fancy him backing up TAA against Boufal and Tadic.  Going to be a tough one for the kid.

That said, Coutinho, Mane, Firmino and Salah all on from the start, should be a tough one for them as well...

I think Southampton are struggling to score, so we’re just trying to encourage them. It’s all part of the plan. They will come out to play and bam, we will score three or four at the other end. Clever.

Unless they score 5 at our end though!

Typically strange man management regards Gomez.

Managers dont seem to like being told their player is good by other people-ie, the press in this case.

After probably the best week of his career, Gomez is benched, even with Matip being out.

I don't think he's been benched because he's not good enough. He played the full 90 against Brazil I think and he'll probably start on Tuesday.

I would like to see us stick with the 4-4-2 we saw at West Ham (or even a 4-2-3-1). Think it's the way forward. A deep midfield is the best way we can protect our defensive structure at the moment. It is also less of a possession-based system, so could help us be more direct while encouraging the opposition to come out and play a bit more.

Hopefully it’s a niggle or a bit of tiredness for Gomez, but yeah, at face value it looks a bit strange. He’s doing well and now we bench him? Can’t argue with Jurgen’s Man management though. Even if Gomez is fine it will keep him hungry and determined to prove he’s becoming a player we need to rely on.
