I'd be more than happy if he stayed as a squad player. But at his age he will want to play. I think we will miss him off the pitch as he seemed the gell for the Spanish and South American players over the past few years

His off the field influence in settling South American players into the club has been immense. Being a native Portuguese speaker seems to have lent itself to the Spanish speakers too.

I'd put it the other way around: maybe he's not what we want but what we (might) need over the course of a long season. What if 2-3 of our central defenders/midfielders gets injured, who would you put on the bench? Lucas is still a decent player on his day, as long as he plays to his strengths, and isnt playing every week. He can still play a backup role and play the odd minutes if need be. Signing a similar player, with the same amount of experience and (fair) quality, isnt cheap in todays market.

Top top fella and a great servant and all that. Showed great strength of character to come through the phase where he got some terrible stick from the fans. Really developed into a very good defensive midfielder and in 2010-11 was looking on course to take it to the next level, that ACL injury came at the worst possible time and he never really got back to that level or stature within the club. Since he's been a great Utily and squad player, with the exception of Rodger's mad attempt to play him as a box to box midfielder in a 3. Phenomenal in the air and a good range of passing. Wish him the very best, very sad to see him go.

Lazio a big club and Rome not a bad place to move.

Have we accepted the bid like?

Lazio have agreed a fee of £5m with Liverpool for Brazilian midfielder Lucas Leiva, Sky sources understand.

The 30-year-old must now agree personal terms and pass a medical before a deal can be completed
