Monday Mar 25: It was the legends game at the weekend. They’re not for me, I’m not a fan of them personally but they seem to make a lot of people happy so that’s sound, each to their own. There was a full house for the game and loads of money was raised for charity, while fans got to see some old favourites and some former players got to play at Anfield again. So it’s all good, it’s just something I want to watch. I did put it on for the last few minutes though just to see Sven at the end, and I was pretty choked up. The older I get the more sentimental and emotional I’m becoming and I could easily have cried watching Sven out there at the end. I d…

I was a big cheat on it. Would be saving it, before a match and going back until I won. Also take over our rivals, sell their best players and play strikers as GK until I got sacked. Did/do you play it straight or a massive cheat like me?

After our midweek stop at Wigan to check in on the excellent progress of Luke Chambers, TLW heads to Yorkshire to see how Fabio Carvalho is coming along at Hull City. There is little doubt that the Portuguese U21 international has natural flair and talent, but for him it has been all about putting that together consistently. It is something that the attacking midfielder was able to do during the 2021/22 season with Fulham where he played a major part in their promotion to the Premier League and was a member of the PFA Championship Team of the Year. A move to Liverpool then eventuated and after a positive start highlighted by a dramatic …

I know very little about the fella, but by all accounts (including many supposedly in the know) he just might be our next manager. Good things I’ve read; 1. - He won the league with Sporting Lisbon who are traditionally Portugal’s third strongest team in 2022, and he is on track to do it again this season. Bad things I’ve read; 1. He’s big mates with Mourinho. Anyway, some relevant shit on his coaching ability:

Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. Note the kick-off time. Also note that the clocks go forward by 1 hour on Sunday. It's all club football now until the end of the season following the latest needless international break. I understand that international coaches want to have time with their players as they plan their squads for the Euros, but these games are usually a mish-mash with loads of players dropping out, others getting a game due to recent form/hype, and the debut of a new kit or two. More importantly, these games come at exactly the point where clubs look t…

The latest edition of A View To the Future takes TLW to Wigan to check in on the progress of academy graduate Luke Chambers. The 19 year-old left-back may be only early in his senior career but he has already impressed many observers with his maturity and adaptability to play in various positions across the back four. Chambers spent the second half of last season north of the border at Kilmarnock where he played a role in helping the Scottish Premiership club avoid relegation. At the start of this campaign, the youngster got an invaluable taste of senior Football at Liverpool where he made four appearances including two starts in the Europa League …

So...I can imagine there will be some eyes rolling and some veins bulging from some as they shout "Thiago was twice the player Keita was, he was a joy to watch" and so on... Who was or is the better footballer is not the question here - if it was the answer would of course be Thiago...That is beyond any reasonable doubt. But who actually contributed more for our club, who influenced things more, who had the better career all things considered with us is what I am asking here.... For my money it is close, very close - both of course massively underwhelmed, primarily of course due to both missing such large amounts of football in their time with us due to injuries. Some…

Monday Mar 18: Trying to avoid the fallout from yesterday as I’m still angry and gutted about it. As I said in the match report, I’ve made peace with being out of the cup, as winning everything was always going to be a tall order and this was bottom of the wish list for most of us. It’s getting beat by them that stings, and specifically the manner of it. It’s not so much about us losing that way, it’s about them winning that way and the joy it brought them. Their joy bothers me far more than our disappointment. I fucking hate the idea that they went home happy, those tragedy chanting cunts didn’t deserve a happy ending but we gave it to them anyway. …

Wataru Endo hopes he can be an example for the next generation of Japanese Footballers after realising his own Footballing dream. The 31 year-old midfielder arrived in England with little fanfare as not much was known about him in this country despite plying his trade in his homeland and in Europe for well over a decade. Last summer shaped as being transitional with a number of high profile senior departures with the emphasis on bringing in young talent. When Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia turned down the Reds for Chelsea on the verge of the season kicking off, morale was pretty low among the fanbase and that didn’t improve much when En…

Joe Gomez has spoken about his overall pride in being recalled to an England squad for the first time in over three years. The Liverpool defender has become one of the most versatile and dependable members of Jurgen Klopp’s squad this season, filling in across the back four and at times even in midfield. With a number of senior departures last season Gomez is the longest serving member of this squad, and the 26 year-old’s Liverpool’s journey has been littered with euphoric highs and crippling lows. International friendlies have a stigma of being somewhat unnecessary to the everyday fan, especially when you take into account the alread…

Short one this week as there were only four games and none of the big boys were playing. Unless you count Spurs in that, which nobody does. Some weird goings on at Burnley v Brentford. The home side took the lead early on from the spot after Reguilon had fouled Vitinho. The ref didn’t give it initially, even though it was blatant. No idea who the ref was as I’ve never seen him before. Maybe that’s why Paul Tierney was happy to send him to the screen to show him the error of his ways. So he then gives the pen, but also sends Reguilon off. What am I missing here, how is that a red card? I thought they scrapped the whole ‘double jeopardy’ thing? Does …

Why are so many people wanking themselves silly over this? It was first mooted by Boris Johnson as purely a ploy to gain votes. The cunt knows as much, or cares as much about football as he does fidelity. He led a party with a decades long history of hostility and outright hatred of football fans. Not one single tory MP gives a flying fuck about ‘community clubs’ or the ‘football pyramid’. This was the government that pressured the premier league to approve the vile Saudi Arabia take over of Newcastle United for their own commercial benefit. And it’s not just tories I wouldn’t trust with a barge pole when it comes to football. …

This is getting to be such a regular thing, we may as well have a thread for them. Like the old Letter From America on Radio 4. https://www.nottinghamforest.co.uk/news/2024/march/18/club-statement/ Nottingham Forest is extremely disappointed with the decision of the Commission to impose a sanction on the Club of four points, to be applied with immediate effect. Notwithstanding our disappointment, we thank the Commission for agreeing to deal with this matter on an expedited basis. The Club considers it to be essential for the integrity of the league to have charges resolved in the season in which they are issued. …

What an absolute sickener. It’s an all timer for me that, just because of who it was, how it happened, and the fact that it was all so fucking unnecessary. We’ve lost here in the cup to a couple of late goals before and it hurts like fuck, but when that happened they were better than us and it would have been a great effort for us to have beaten them. It hurts but it’s understandable. That’s not how it is now. They’re shite, we should never be losing to them and I don’t feel any better about it today than I did yesterday. I'm still fuming. That said, having been able to sleep on it and collect some thoughts, I can compartmentalise this to some extent. With the…

The Reds paid the price for not finishing off the opponent when they were on the ropes and suffered the most heartbreaking of Old Trafford losses right at the death. TLW Editor Dave Usher is joined by Julian Richards and Stu Montagu for a healing group therapy session and to try and make sense of what happened. View full article

Jurgen Klopp knew he had a major job to do when he first arrived at Liverpool and was more focused on building a pathway to success than reclaiming the mantle of most successful club in English Football. That he has managed to do both is just another testament to the remarkable job that the German has done since coming to the club when it was clearly at the crossroads in October 2015. A student of the game, Klopp knew all about the fierce rivalry between Liverpool and Man United and Alex Ferguson’s phrase when he first joined the Red Devils. but he was much more interested in starting the process of building a successful team rather than focusing o…

Monday Mar 11: Kyle Walker is doing the media rounds today for some reason or other, and for some reason Sky are asking him for his thoughts on the ref's performance yesterday. Of course he was effusive in his praise of Michael Oliver (or “Mike” to his friends such as dirtbag Kyle) because he showed great “character” to not be swayed by Anfield yesterday. This isn’t normal and I can’t believe Sky are putting shit like this out. What’s going on? I feel like we’re in a footy equivalent of a Black Mirror episode. This is even worse than someone slagging a referee off, as the next time he’s involved in a contentious incident and Oliver is the ref, this interview i…

Work-rate. Incisiveness. Nous. I don't ask for much. This is how it's gonna be. Build from the ground up. Yet another FA Cup tie at their place. This one's live on ITV. It feels as though we come up against this lot every few years, and always in the earlier rounds of the cup. In recent years, they've forever been turning a corner only to get a custard pie in the face, while spending substantial amounts of money in order to do so. The Glazers have spent a stack on transfers and wages, only to be met with scorn by the fans who demand the club spend as though owned by a sovereign wealth fund. The fans also bring out the Norwich scarves wh…

I don’t think I’ve ever felt uncomfortable about us battering a team before but when the fourth goal went in and we hadn’t even reached the 15 minute mark, I was squirming a little bit. It just felt awkward. Like that video when Michael Owen was blasting volleys past a 12 year old keeper. I felt a bit sorry for Sparta but I was also annoyed with them too. It’s hard enough playing against us without doing the stupid shit they kept doing. It was the same last week too. How many of the goals we scored over both legs came from us winning the ball from them when they tried to play out from the back? At least four, probably more. Yet they kept doing it and we kept p…
