So...I can imagine there will be some eyes rolling and some veins bulging from some as they shout "Thiago was twice the player Keita was, he was a joy to watch" and so on...

Who was or is the better footballer is not the question here - if it was the answer would of course be Thiago...That is beyond any reasonable doubt.

But who actually contributed more for our club, who influenced things more, who had the better career all things considered with us is what I am asking here....

For my money it is close, very close - both of course massively underwhelmed, primarily of course due to both missing such large amounts of football in their time with us due to injuries.

Some basic stats to inform the discussion/maybe influence the vote...Of course things like honours need the context of how much a player actually contributed, appearances and mins tell different stories for various reasons and all stats need context and are dependent on a lot of circumstances - but the bare stats read as follows:

Seasons at club:

Keita: 5
Thiago: 4

Total appearances:

Keita: 129
Thiago: 98

Goals:

Keita: 11
Thiago: 3

Assists:

Keita: 6
Thiago: 6

Win %

Keita: 70.54%
Thiago: 63.27%

Honours Won:

Keita: CL, PL, LC, FAC,
Thiago: FAC

Total Mins played:

Keita: 6,528
Thiago: 6,557

Keita scored at Old Trafford in the 5-0 win. Thiago scored that lovely goal once where he kicked over the top of the ball and it kind of flew into the net in an unerringly straight arrow like fashion. Think it was a European game. Also Thiago ran the show against the Mancs once at Anfield when we played them off the pitch. Both were obviously injured all the time and completely unreliable. I’m gonna give Thiago this one. Keita just didn’t seem remotely arsed. Also Keita went off and got injured on international duty against the clubs’ wishes so that also made me think he was even more of a useless cunt.

Thiago not credited with a medal for the League Cup victory he had to pull out of at the last minute?

Naby, beast of a player, tenacious tackler....so I was told.

Thiago, runs the game, we now have a player who can unlock a defence....so I was told.

A  pair of absolute sick notes who I'd rather forget ever played for us.

The Romans did more for us than these two ever did.

Keita tended to be fit for major finals though! He should have kept that Doctor.

I remember THAT shot in the final.

Pair of them wouldn't get past the interview stage of Dragons Den and for that reason, I'm out.

Thiago is the better player, it’s very clear that’s not the point of the thread.

Keita contributed more. Until his injury in Barcelona, is was semi-regular in the CL winning & 97 point season.

Again, he was semi regular the year we won the league.

He put in his most appearances for us in the quadruple chase season. Played well in both cup finals. Let’s ignore that shot in Paris…

Arguably, given he was mostly available and playing well in the quadruple chase, IMO, we missed him last season.

The COVID19 season is best forgotten all round. Thiago was only available for half of it. He did well towards the end of the season but that was only c.10 games.

When mostly available, Thiago was very good in the quadruple chase.

Last season, like most, was a write off. This season is a total write off.

So, I’d argue Keita contributed to 3 good seasons in 5 year. Thiago contributed to 1 good season in 4 years.

Keita was part of more successes than Thiago was so I'd go for him. Whether he contributed much or not is open to debate. You can't contribute much when you are not playing though. Thiago is the Porsche in the garage that only works a few times a year while Keita is the old Ford Escort that was of more use in the longer term. Has to be Keita for me as trophies are what we are about. Pretty though Thiago is to watch he's been of little use to us overall.

Personally I would go for the player who has won the league 11 times, the Champions League two times.

Maybe its just me.

Barcelona[127]

Bayern Munich[4]

Liverpool

Spain U17

Spain U21

Individual

Red Bull Salzburg

Liverpool

Individual

We are talking about Liverpool here, not anywhere else. We are also not talking about being easy on the eye either. But you know that and just want to 'win' the argument. Which is easy enough when there are at least 72 of you!

Unfortunately, his 11 league titles and 2 CL’s weren’t for us.

If you’re going by that logic, Keita won the league and CL with us, Thiago didn’t.

Keita. Seemed to do a small bit more for us, though he was still a big disappointment.

But not a choice I’d get too worked up about either way.

That all the titles Thiago won elsewhere are being used as something in his favour shows how peripheral he was for us.

We've basically got everything we expected from Thiago. Technically and tactically astute but injury-prone as fuck. Naby had the attributes to be an absolute dynamo in midfield, but we only got sporadic glimpses. All too often he wasn't up to the task physically, and it didn't appear to bother him too much that his time at Liverpool was so underwhelming.
