On an output per million arguably two of our worst ever signings.

Any idea the total contract costs and transfer fees for both?

That's harsh on both of them especially Thiago.

Are you forgetting the likes of Aquilani, Andy Carrol and Benteke played for us!

I must have missed the joke somewhere, admittedly, not for the first time.

Was my serious and well thought out answer not necessarily then?

The point of this thread is to actually make me want to watch international football, which I rarely want to do, instead of engage in this shite discussion.

The answer is Alexis Oxtail Chamberpot.

Nah, he was decent for us but that injury against Roma just when he was starting to peak for us fucked him. I feel sorry for the lad, he was never the same player.

When we signed him we got what it said on the tin, average and injury prone. The tin was correct. I was never a fan at all.

No it isn't.

It came from a conversation in the ale house with a mate recently and I was genuinely interested to see what people thought.

We all know who the better footballer was - that was not the question, we all know who had the better career overall - why code answered as he did i'll never know as clearly the question relates to time at LFC alone.....

But it is a genuine question and IMO a reasonable debate as to who out the two of them had the better career at LFC, who contributed more for our club. Both of course failed to reach the heights we all hoped for and we all know why, but the question is genuine.

Still got a medal though, he looked confused when they gave it to him.

It isn't listed as an honour on his page wikipedia or lfchistory.net ...so i left it off based on that and fact he did not play a second in the competition or sit on bench as a sub. If people wish to count it i have no issue, here is the summary for him in it

One of them starts every game when fit, the other was a squad player.

The end.

The fact the squad player made more appearances is very telling in terms of how good a career with us the guaranteed starter had.

Keita was here for five seasons, Thiago has been here four, but this season can hardly count.

Aquliani was horrific. We recouped large sums for both Benteke and Andy Carroll as far as I can remember. None of those three missed as much football as Thiago or Keita as they all got shipped out on loan or sold sharpish. And they would have been on much lower wages.

Isn't Thiago on 275k a week? That's 14m per year. Times 4 seasons , £56m. Played 100 games for us so that's half a million an appearance, many of which he would have be subbed. And that's ignoring his transfer fee and any signing on bonus. Crazy really.

The appearance stats were posted in the OP, code with number of seasons at club with them.

We all know them.

Their averages per season over careers with us are virtually identical.

Keita 129/5 = 25.8

Thiago 98/4 = 24.5

Paul Stewart outstrips Aquilani, Benteke and Carroll.

We got rid of Beardsley, who still had the better part of a decade left in him as a First Division/Premier League player. Souness broke the transfer record to replace him with Dean Saunders, who scored 23 goals - but most of them were against some Finnish side in the UEFA Cup.

Souness then decided to get rid of Saunders at a loss (when he had even longer left in him in as a Premier League player than Beardsley did) and spent every penny of his fee on Paul Stewart, who was so bad he was sent out on loan four times before leaving on a fee.
I know the guy had terrible off-field issues that none of us knew about at the time. But, pound for pound and going by the going rate in 1992, he was the biggest waste of money in the club’s history. Even Diouf was binned more quickly.

Yep. It was disastrous and I'm surprised how much of a free ride Souness gets over it.
