Got to say Im uneasy about some of the comments here. Saying stuff like there's no slavery anymore (so its ok to forget or ignore it happened?) is a bit like saying there's no absolute poverty in the UK anymore so scrap the whole welfare state, from unemployment benefits through to the NHS.

I think coloured is considered a bit of a dated ignorant word and isn't the same as saying someone is black. I understand your point about appearance but I feel the historical context of skin colour racism counters it so I don't really understand why you keep on repeating it. You are saying skin and hair both parts of the body that gets the colour mocked and are therefore equivalent, I am saying the history of skin colour insult means they aren't.

On the issue of whether you can describe people as 'black', I haven't ever met a single black person who minds that description if it is used in an inoffensive context i.e 'He's standing next to the black guy over there.'. All those things you mention do clearly exist - but they don't point to racism being an issue worthy of the furore it regularly stokes up, and I've not heard anything in this thread that leads me to believe otherwise. I'm still totally not arsed about it. If I had to list things that concern me most about modern british society, I doubt racism would make the top 100, and it would definitely be lagging behind littering and textspeak.

 

On the subject of your postcount, I was not scoffing at the number, and am neither impressed nor underwhelmed by the number of posts someone has. I was merely pointing out that a forum is only as good as the people that post on it. Therefore as a somewhat rare contributor yourself, you are in no position to judge or pass comment on it.

Just been in my local shop which is run by sound Sri Lankans and one of the local bagheads was arguing the toss over a quid on the half-bottles of vodka being more expensive than the full ones (which it always is) then he starts with all the "fucking pakis robbing cunts" bollocks, there's a big queue behind him and I am directly next so I say "no need to be racist lad" so he turns round and starts kicking off on me telling me to mind my own fucking business and it's got nothing to do with me etc and frankly I shit out, just shrugged my shoulders and he left the shop. No-one else in the shop apart from me and the shopkeeper opened their mouths against this fucking moron.

 

Part of me is annoyed with myself for getting involved, the fella could've been a loon or had a knife or anything (and my bird duly bollocked me for getting embroiled), but part of me is more annoyed that the other 3 people in the shop didn't join in to condemn this prick so he'd just fuck off with his tail between his legs.

I took the bitch and brats to Southport fairground years ago, we were queuing for a ride when three lads pushed in front. I was weighing up if it was worth saying anything, I tend to lose it pretty quick in confrontations, not something I'm proud of, in fact it's embarrassing. There were two asian lads behind us, bit studenty, but one of them politely told the lads were the back of the queue was. One of the queue jumpers replied "you gonna show us paki?" in a proper confrontational way. That did it for me, I stepped into his space and kept walking so he had to back away. I was right in his face saying " I'll fucking show you, bring your mates, come on twatnacks". They fucked off, thankfully, and once the adrenaline left the paranoia arrived, and the incident put a downer on the day. Looking back, I did the right thing, though it didn't feel like it when I was walking round waiting to get jumped.

I had a similar experience in our local co-op before Xmas, always a fucking queue in there, just getting some beers, about 4 people in front of me. A guy aged 40 plus is at the front of the queue at the checkouts with his daughter, she must have been about 8 or 9. Anyway he is chatting on with the bird at the tills, she said something along the lines of "I thought you were a taxi driver" to which he replied, "do I look like a paki", almost had a double take at that point, what made it worse was that the bird on the till found this hilarious and was literally laughing out loud. The guy then started to mimic a indian accent, something along the lines of "I work x n0 of hours per day, I have family to support, I need to send money home etc etc" again woman behind the till found this hilarious.

 

No other customers commented, neither did I, perhaps I should have done, felt sorry for his daughter, having to be brought up by someone with those views, its a difficult one, makes me feel sick thinking about it now, maybe I should have said something to the woman behind the till. I use that store regularly and know at least one other member of staff is an asian guy, its disgraceful behaviour, I: probably should have walked out when it happened.

I'd have probably followed him home, and then made a note of his address. I'd spend the next few weeks, along with 20 or so mates, learning a Kandyan dance. Then perform it in his garden in the middle of the night.

I was at the England V India ODI in Bristol with the wife (then bird) and Sachin Tendulkar was out for 99. This Welsh cunt behind me in an Ingurland shirt with 'SINCE 1066' on the back started laughing and shouting 'take that you fucking paki' amongst a load of other shite.

 

I quickly told him exactly what I thought of him and I didn't give a shit if the stewards acted or not that I lived just around the corner, knew where he drank and we could 'talk about it' any time he wanted.

 

A couple of his mates tried to make out that it was all a laugh when a steward came over and that I'd over reacted. The steward obviously didn't want to have to deal with it and we ended up moving seats.

 

'Why do you always have to cause a scene' was all I got for the rest of the day mate. I feel your pain but you did right.
