Find me a lap top...

Recommended Posts

I've been offered silly money to do some inspections of care homes and hospitals but I'd need a lap top to produce my report over the three days of the inspection.

So I need a decent lap top that will be easy to use, have a large screen preferably, a decent memory and speed (means it's quick to use, I have no idea what the tech term is for this!).

I'm looking at a budget of no more than £500.

I really don't have a clue when it comes to technology hence my begging here. I've found this but is it any good, decent value?

Dell Inspiron Q17R Laptop (Intel Core i3, 4GB, 500GB, 17.3" Display) Black - Tesco.Direct

Many thanks and rep to come.

Cheers

Isn't Acer a cheap shitty make?

No, not at all you just don't pay a premium for a name, like not owning a BMW. It may not be the prettiest mind

I've had two Acer laptops in the past both of which lasted 5 years, which i have then sold on.

90% of the insides of all laptops are the same (if the spec's the same, if know what i mean), you only pay more for the fancy lights and shiney shiney brushed metal bits.

Fair enough mate, that's why I came here.

I have no idea what is good or not.

Look at the specs for two i found further up, if you can better (bigger numbers) for less £££ then buy it.

The Lennovo is probably the best buy imo.

Of the laptops above, the Lenovo is the best.

You can pick up some decent refurbed machines from PC World for less than £500.

There's a few i5's on that list that I have my eye on at moment as well... (There's a couple of i7's on the list, but they are not in stock....).

Check out the Argos Ebay store. I got my Sony Vaio from there, brand new with the same warranty as a new one at about 40% off retail price.

Site here SONY VAIO C SERIES 15.5 INCH LAPTOP - BLACK items in Argos Outlet store on eBay!

Acer are great laptops.

Personally, I would steer clear of Dell especially the Vostro range.. and the rest are just over-priced. There are some great deals on Amazon at the moment. Just to add to the other good advice you've got on here.

yes Dell laptop I bought is the shittest piece of kit I ever bought

Decent laptop for the price. Keeping in mind that I'm assuming you'll be using the laptop for general usage; surfing, downloading & office applications...

I use an i5 Lenovo at work and they are good pieces of kit. Much better than the old Dell laptop I used to have.

I'll only be using it a couple of times a month mate, it'll be for producing reports whilst away with work and surfing the web, fuck all else.

Well, that laptop would be more than sufficient then.

I looked at a similar one myself a while back, though it was a refurbed i5 model.

That took me 5 minutes - if you search around you might be able to get another 50 quid off somewhere.

I'm in the market for a cheap laptop or even possibly a netbook. I have a second job analysing google searches and I also need it to use word documents. Would prefer if it had the grunt to play FM2012 etc but not essential by any means.

Looking for as cheap as possible, e.g. less than £200. Any ideas?
