  1. Amara Nallo was on the bench against City. 17 year-old left footed centre-back we picked up from West Ham in the Summer gone. He and Carter Pinnington, who were both 16 at the start of the season, have formed a good partnership this season while playing for the 21s. Unfortunately, neither Nallo or Pinnington are on our B list. Nallo isn't eligible for the B list having only joined the club last Summer. I assume Pinnington wasn't added purely due to how young he was/is. As for Sparta Prague, they followed up the 5-1 defeat last week with a 4-0 away defeat against third placed Viktoria Plzen on Sunday. My line-up for Thursday would be; Kelleher; Bradley, Quansah, Virgil, Tsimikas; Szoboszlai, McConnell, Clark; Gakpo, Nunez, Salah. Adrian, Frauendorf, Gomez, Robbo, Endo, Mac Allister; Gordon, Koumas, Danns, Musialowski, Elliott, Diaz. Gomez on for Virgil at half-time. Kaide Gordon on for Salah on or around the hour mark, along with Koumas or Musialowski on for Szoboszlai with Gakpo dropping into midfield. Not too many options at right back to give Conor a rest, unless Robbo or Tsimkas shifted over for the back end of the game. Frauendorf made his return to the 21s side against Reading on Sunday coming off the bench, so if he's fit enough, I suppose he could spell Conor for the last 15 minutes or so. If at all possible, I'd want to rest Diaz, Elliott, Endo and Mac Allister for the entire 90.
  2. Fuck 'em. Fuck 'em all. City. The ref. PGMOL. Arteta. And every other Lego headed cunt. Up Jurgen's mighty fucking Reds!
  3. @Code knows. Turning doubters into absolute fucking whoppers every day.
  4. Koumas and McConnell both played the first 45 minutes in the U21s 2-0 defeat against Villa today. Nyoni played the full 90, as did Kaide Gordon. Certainly would not be surprised if McConnell gets a start in Prague, with Koumas on the bench. As things stand, I think I'd go with the following, with a couple of arranged subs at halftime, all things being equal. Kelleher; Gomez, Quansah, Virg, Tsimikas; Endo, McConnell, Clark; Gakpo, Danns, Elliott. I'd have Konate and Bradley on for Virg and Gomez at the break. Dom and Mo on for Endo and Harvey around 60 minutes, if Mo is deemed fit enough.
  5. Had the game on but muted while at work, so didn't really see the game in its entirety. However, from what I did see, the best side won on the night. Kone-Doherty and Morrison looked very rushed in anything they tried, up until the consolation at least. Very easy to say now, but having Davidson at left back inverting certainly did not work on the night. Not that there were many choices at left back given that Nallo was up with the first team. Franny Gyimah puts a shift in, but he's no Larouci... The lack of a proper number 9 also didn't help. I like young Kareem Ahmed, but he's not a 9. I didn't hear why Figueroa was not involved, but I have to assume injury or illness.
  6. Quick midweek updates... Harvey Davies and Adam Lewis both played the full 90 as Crewe beat Newport 4-2 at Gresty Road. Ojrzynski was again an unused sub as Den Bosch lost 1-0 away to Helmond. Anderson Arroyo played the full 90 in FC Andorra's 3-2 home win over Cartagena. Rhys Williams was involved in Aberdeen's development squad for their 5-3 defeat against Peterhead in the Challenge Cup as he steps up his match fitness ahead of a return to first team football. Balagizi was not in the matchday squad for Wigan for the midweek 1-1 draw at Carlisle. He did return to the bench today in the 4-0 thumping of Bolton at The Reebok. He came off the bench in the 79th minute. Preston finally confirmed that Calvin Ramsay is out for 6-8 weeks.
  7. Under 21s keeper Luke Hewitson has gone out on loan to Stalybridge Celtic until January, so here's an updated list of our loanees: Goalkeepers Harvey Davies - Crewe Alexandra (League Two) Jakub Ojrzynski - FC Den Bosch (Dutch Eerste Divisie) Luke Hewitson - Stalybridge Celtic (Northern Premier League Division One West) Defenders Adam Lewis - Newport County (League Two) Anderson Arroyo - FC Andorra (La Liga 2) Calvin Ramsay - Preston North End (English Championship) Owen Beck - Dundee (Scottish Premiership) Rhys Williams - Aberdeen (Scottish Premiership) Sepp van den Berg - FSV Mainz 05 (German Bundesliga) Midfielders Dominic Corness - Yverdon Sport (Swiss Super League) James Balagizi - Wigan Athletic (League One) Forwards Fabio Carvalho - RB Leipzig (German Bundesliga)
  8. Not a good day for the 18s as they were thumped 4-1 away at Leeds. Leeds finished the game with 10 men, but were already 3-0 by that time. Jayden Danns scored our consolation from the pelanty spot late in the game.
  9. Liverpool 4 Everton 0 Goalscorers - Musialowski (52'), Miles (60'), Hill (83') & Clark (90+1') The 21s are off to a terrific start to their Premier League 2 campaign with a comprehensive 4-0 victory in the mini-derby. Totally dominant throughout according to @IanDoyleSport over on Twitter. Despite the dominance, we went into the break goalless. However, it took just 7 minutes of the second half to deservedly break the deadlock (Musialowski). The lead was doubled on the hour (Miles), with the 3rd scored in the 83rd minute (Hill) and the fourth scored in stoppage time (Clark).
  10. The 21's get their Premier League 2 campaign off and running with a mini-derby at The Academy this evening. Kick-off at 19:00, but there's no live coverage of the game unfortunately. Tonight's line-up: Pitaluga; Miles, Quansah, Chambers, Scanlon; Stephenson, McConnell, Clark; Musialowski, Cannonier, Norris. Subs: Mrozek, Mabaya, Pilling, Hill, Frauendorf.
  11. The 18s kicked off their league campaign with a 4-2 win against Forest at The Academy on Saturday afternoon. Offal Match Report Liverpool U18s made a winning start to their new season with a 4-2 defeat of Nottingham Forest at the Academy on Saturday. First-half finishes from Jayden Danns and Lewis Koumas looked to have set the young Reds on course for three points to kick off the U18 Premier League North campaign. Connor Brown won and converted a penalty shortly before half-time for Forest, though, and a solo run and strike from Jimmy Sinclair then brought them back on terms. But Brown was later sent off and the hosts capitalised on the numerical advantage as Danns converted an 86th-minute penalty and Trent Kone-Doherty curled home a beauty to claim victory. Liverpool made an assertive start to the match and their early pressure told with just 11 minutes on the clock. Koumas’ driving run along the left edge of the Forest area carried him past his marker and an accurate cutback allowed Danns to smartly open up his body and place a fine finish inside the right-hand post. The visitors almost responded immediately, with Carter Pinnington required to clear away from goal when Brown rounded Nathan Morana and shot. It was soon a similar story at the other end as Danns pounced on a short backpass. He was tackled in the box but teed up Kieran Morrison, who was blocked by the goalkeeper. Koumas then followed up but his effort was diverted on the line by David Modupe. Danns was inches away from a second when his header from an excellent Josh Davidson floated cross – after a slick one-two down the right – struck the bar and bounced away. But the Reds’ advantage was doubled just before the half-hour mark. Kone-Doherty stole the ball from Henry Lister, surged into the area and set it back for Koumas to coolly sweep beyond Keehan Willows. Moments later, Willows got a crucial touch on a vicious low drive from Kone-Doherty to turn it wide, before Forest halved their deficit six minutes before the break. Brown got away from Wellity Lucky on the byline and despite the Reds’ protests, the latter was penalised for bringing down the former by the referee. Brown stepped up to take the kick from 12 yards and placed it just beyond the reach of Morana. The away side’s momentum continued after the break and Isaac Davies scooped a shot over the bar when a cross from the left fell to him unmarked. It was brief respite for Liverpool, however. Sinclair darted in from the flank and beat several opponents on his route into the area, before crashing a diagonal strike past Morana for 2-2. Pinnington had to repeat his close-range block from the first half to prevent the now-buoyant Forest from getting in front, whole Afolami Onanuga struck too close to the goalkeeper having created space. Forest were reduced to 10 players in minute 74 as Brown was shown a straight red card following a tackle and subsequent altercation with Onanuga. The Reds set about trying to make the most of their personnel advantage and Kone-Doherty was so close with a low drive from around 14 yards that went past the far post. But as time ticked away, Koumas was rashly challenged as he stepped into the box by Tony Gbopo and Danns calmly sent the ’keeper the wrong way from the penalty spot. And Kone-Doherty fully ensured three points on matchday one for Liverpool with a pinpoint curler into the top corner in stoppage time. TEAM Liverpool U18s: Morana, Davidson, Gyimah, Lucky, Pinnington, Trueman (Pitt, 81), Koumas, Onanuga (Ahmed, 81), Danns, Morrison, Kone-Doherty. Unused subs: Misciur, Furnell-Gill, Pennington.
  12. Harvey Davies - Full 90 in 2-2 draw at Swindon. Made 3 saves and was booked in stoppage time for time wasting. FlashScore rating - 6.7. Jakub Ojrzynski - Unused sub for Den Bosch in 1-0 home win against Oss. Adam Lewis - Full 90, a booking and a clean sheet for Adam as Newport cruised to a 4-0 home victory over Doncaster. FlashScore rating - 7.5. Anderson Arroyo - Full 90 and a clean sheet for Anderson as FC Andorra got their campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 victory at Leganes. FlashScore rating - 7.3. Calvin Ramsay - Not in the matchday squad for Preston's 2-1 home win against Sunderland. Has apparently suffered an undisclosed injury setback. Owen Beck - Full 90 and a late yellow card for Owen in Dundee's 2-1 defeat in Paisley against St. Mirren. FlashScore rating - 6.7. Rhys Williams - Not in the matchday squad for Aberdeen's 3-1 home defeat to Celtic. He continues his recovery from a back injury. Sepp van den Berg - Came off the bench in the 80th minute as Mainz held on for a 1-0 away win against Elversberg who were reduced to 10 late in the DFB Pokal first round tie. Sepp picked up a booking deep into stoppage time. FlashScore rating - 6.1. Dominic Corness - Unused sub as Yverden were hammered 6-1 away at Lugano. James Balagizi - Unused sub in Wigan's 2-1 home win over Northampton. Fabio Carvalho - Came off the bench to replace hattrick hero Dani Olmo in the 78th minute of Leipzig's 3-0 victory over Bayern in the German Super Cup. FlashScore rating - 6.5
  13. It's where a number of posters on the PNE forum believe he's been for the past week. Preston are at home on Saturday, so will hopefully get a better idea of what the issue may be.
  14. His Twitter account is still active - Not that this means much. Had a look at a Preston forum yesterday and there's a little concern that Calvin has picked up another injury and while be out for a little while longer, although, this information has not been confirmed by anyone and certainly not by Preston themselves. When Ryan Lowe was asked about Calvin, his response was as follows: This reply seems to started the injury rumours that are spreading across the PNE forum. I also seen posters mention that Ramsay was suffering from homesickness, but I'd not read anything into that.
  15. Fluminense win 2-0 on the night and 3-1 on aggregate.
  16. Doesn't look like it - Liam Cooper out for around 8 weeks. The only currently have 2 'senior' centre-backs in Charlie Creswell & Pascal Struijk, though Ethan Ampadu could play there too if needed. Cooper has had a number of injuries in the last couple of seasons, so I'd guess that Leeds want sufficient cover at the back. A loan deal for someone like Rodon makes perfect sense, but would not close the door on a deal for Nat, in my opinion.
  17. Andre starts for Fluminense tonight.
  18. Harvey Davies played a big part in Crewe knocking out Sunderland at The Stadium of Light this evening, as the visitors secured a 5-3 pelanty shootout victory following a 1-1 draw at the end of the 90 (+10 minutes stoppage time). According to FlashScore, Harvey made 6 saves during the regulation time, including a big save deep into the 10+ minutes of stoppage time at the end of the game. Harvey then saved the home side's third pelanty of the shootout to help the visitors pull off a shock result against their hosts from the Championship. Elsewhere, Adam Lewis came off the bench in the 57th minute to help Newport turnaround a 1 goal deficit against Charlton. The Exiles went on to score 3 goals following Adam's introduction to book their place in the second round. James Balagizi was replaced in the 58th minute at the Racecourse Ground as Wrexham secured a 4-2 shootout win following a goalless 90 minutes. Wigan had a lot of the ball but did little with it - Bala made a few good ball recoveries, but otherwise had a quiet game.
  19. Good old selective quoting by another of the many know-nothing Twitterati accounts. I'll give him that he then at least links the article from the Echo where he has grabbed the quote from. Here's the rest of what Virgil had to say - Echo: Virgil van Dijk understands the growing concerns of Liverpool supporters ahead of the new Premier League season - as he detailed the discussions being held to help solve the Reds' ongoing defensive frailties. Jurgen Klopp's side begin their top-flight campaign at Chelsea on Sunday having concluded their warm-up programme with a 3-1 win against Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt at Preston on Monday. While another demonstration of the Reds' firepower - they netted 18 goals in five friendlies this summer - another failure to keep a clean sheet highlighted the worries about a backline that conceded 11 times during the same period. Liverpool are without a proven defensive midfielder following the departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia and Southampton's steadfast refusal to budge from their £50million valuation of 19-year-old Romeo Lavia. As a consequence, a section fans have become worried at the team's immediate prospects with transfer business having stalled following the arrival of £95m midfield duo Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szobozslai. And asked if he understood those concerns, Van Dijk said: "Yeah, I can definitely understand it in some ways. But I’m not a very negative person, so obviously it’s not in my mind to think like that. "But obviously when a lot of players are leaving, when your captain is leaving, your vice-captain is leaving, and at the moment there are only two incomings, and the way we have been playing - in possession really good, but defensively when you concede goals it’s not as good - I can understand some people having doubts." The Liverpool captain added: "But the most important thing as we’ve seen over the years is the consistency, as a group, everyone in the squad. Let’s see if more players are coming in, and then we have to be ready again for a long season. It will be very tough if we look at the teams around us, but we want to be up there again, we want to be challenging again, and the only way to do it is with the consistency that we’ve shown over the previous years, apart from last year which was very disappointing. "We have to be confident, we should be confident and we should still be learning each and every day. We should be excited. I’m very excited, so let’s give it a go." Van Dijk believes Liverpool have recruited well in Mac Allister and Szoboszlai but admits the departures - James Milner, Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also left in the summer - have left a sizeable hole in the squad. "The players who left us were big characters in the squad, on and off the pitch," said the Holland international. "That is something we all have to fill in again. The boys who are coming in are of a world class level in my opinion. We see Macca and Dom and it is incredible how they operate especially with the ball and try and get used to the way we defend as well. "That is a work in progress but there are roles to be filled and taken over and everyone has to do it in their own way, and I am very confident that will happen. There have been players leaving who have played a big part in the success, but others have to step up. That’s a nice challenge, in my opinion." Nevertheless, Van Dijk refuses to entertain the notion the disruption of implementing a new midfield should excuse the goals Liverpool have conceded this summer, and explained lengthy talks have taken place over the weekend to address the defensive issues. "We defend all together," he said. "It is not just the midfield or the strikers or just the defenders, it is about the way we try and put the opponent under pressure. If they are under pressure they cannot play the ball in behind so easily and you are prepared for it. "If you watch it very black-and-white then obviously when you concede goals it is the defenders or the goalkeeper’s fault. But the way in which we conceded the last couple of goals, the balls in behind were not defended well and we discussed that. "Especially on Sunday and the day before, we had a long video meeting and looked at the last line. It was very helpful, the way you are positioning and you have to be ready for the balls in behind and when teams smell the danger is there they will go for it. It was a good meeting the other day, very clear and very direct and that is what we need in order to be successful."
  20. A few lads in action this evening. Harvey Davies starts between the posts for Crewe at Sunderland. James Balagizi makes his first competitive start for Wigan in this evening's televised fixture away at Wrexham. Adam Lewis is on the bench for Newport as they host Charlton. No Calvin Ramsay for Preston tonight - Still not match fit.
  21. Calvin Ramsay and Rhys Williams didn't make the matchday squads for Preston and Aberdeen respectively - Calvin is building up his match fitness and Rhys currently has a slight back injury but should return to training in the next week or so. James Balagizi made the bench for Wigan in their 2-1 away win at Derby, but ended the game as an unused substitute. Dominic Corness has made 2 appearances from the bench for Yverdon in the first 3 gameweeks of this season's Swiss Super League. Dom played 24 minutes in the 2-0 defeat at FC Zurich in gameweek 1. He was then an unused sub in gameweek 2 in the 2-2 home draw against Young Boys. This past gameweek seen Dom come off the bench for the last 20 minutes in a 2-1 away win at FC Lausanne. FlashScore rating vs. FC Zurich - 6.3 FlashScore rating vs. FC Lausanne - 6.3
  22. Owen Beck has made 4 appearances for Dundee from 5 games played so far. He played in 3 of the 4 group stage games in the league cup, playing 90 minutes in each. He was also booked in 2 of the 3 games. Owen made his SPFL debut at a drenched Dens Park on Saturday, playing the full 90, as Dundee returned to the top flight in Scotland having won the Championship last season. FlashScore rating vs. Motherwell - 6.8
  23. Adam Lewis made a return to Newport County for his second loan spell at the club. Not a great start to Newport's season as they were beaten 3-0 away at Accrington Stanley, with the home side scoring twice late in the game to seal the 3 points on opening day. FlashScore gave Lewis a rating of 6.3 on his return to The Exiles.
