The way Terry and Lampard goaded us in the Kemlyn at the final whistle even though we'd outplayed them sums up their lack of class for me. I fucking hate them almost as much as United.

Funnily enough, I actually like Mourinho though, they don't deserve him and I think he'll be off when his contract expires.

Plus Jack Walker was a local (even though he moved to Jersey) businessman who was fiercely passionate about the club he supported. I think I heard that he left a lot of his fortune to the club when he passed away.

Could never imagine any of that being the case with chelsea.

I'd also say this about Blackburn.

Yes, they lived out of Jack Walker's pocket for a few years but they did not make a mockery of the transfer system. They weren't purchasing players for £15 million, or whatever the equivalent was, then loaning them out the next season. Jack Walker knew the value of a quid. When they sold Shearer and Sutton alone they must have come close to balancing their net transfer spending.

What Walker basically did was take Blackburn from also-rans to a position competitive with the top English clubs for a couple of seasons. I can't see how that is ruining the game.

Abramovich, on the other hand, is toying with the rest of the football world. Here is someone who definitely does NOT know the value of a pound given the shadowy origins of his fortune. As fans of Liverpool know all too well he is trying to tear the heart and soul from our club by corrupting our captain and local-born "hero" in a shameless public manner.

Anyone but Chelsea. Hate 'em.

Think of Chelsea fans reaction to Rafa's quote about not needing plastic flags. Now eye these quotes and let Chelsea fans hypocrisy commence...

Eto’o, 32, made his views clear after he scored Barca’s winner in a first-leg Champions League clash with Chelsea in February 2005.

Ahead of the return game, Eto’o said: “I would sooner sell groundnuts in my home village than play for a pathetic club like Chelsea.”

If my memory serves me right, the chelsea fans got really unbearable in the 90's after Gullit took over and brought them a few big name players. I dont recall them even coming close to winning the league back then, but still they acted like they were Real Madrid. Smug and arrogant tossers. Its only gotten worse since then. The thing i hate most about all this is that by some freak accident they, out of all the clubs in the world, got endless amounts money between theyre hands, and all of a sudden the idiots down the kings road start to believe they were right all along and that they have every right to act like they have done for a decade.

You're memory is just fine! Am I the only one thinking that Arsenal have developed a bit of this? Winning fuck all the last years, but their fans seem to think somehow that they play superior football to other teams. Their plastic stadium and plastic fans seem to be louder after a succession of neat one-touch triangles than when they score. Camp Nou is the same in my experience, but for slightly more understandable reasons.

Raising this thread from the dead for two reasons:

1. Is it just me, or have Chelsea been ... well, a lot cheaper than they used to be over the last few years?

I mean, sure they've spent a lot on a few players like Kante, Morata, Batshuayi, Rudiger, and Luiz, but they've also sold some big-money players like Costa, Oscar, Ramires and Matic to do it. They seem to be looking for ways to scrimp and save money (like with Barkley, or getting Drinkwater instead of a big-money player like they would have 5 years ago, to take a couple of examples) more than before.

Not sure where I'm going with this, but it's just different, for them at least. Wonder if Abramovich is starting to lose interest. He sure isn't throwing money at the club like he was a decade ago, that's for sure.

2. There are strong rumours that Chelsea are going to buy Andy Carroll.

And that's obviously the main reason I'm resurrecting the Chelsea thread. Because, come on. We need a place to laugh at them if that actually happens, surely?

Even when they were throwing money around like nobody’s business and there were no FFP rules (even as laughable as they are) they still spoke about being self sufficient. As soon as they dropped off a bit they would always just spend another shitload. I think Abramovic thought after nearly 15 years of being at the top of the game he wouldn’t have to keep ploughing money in.

The reality is you can’t just buy a fan base like Liverpool or United. I remember seeing the shirt sales numbers and that Chelsea and City were above Liverpool. It’s all nonsense. We are seeing it with empty seats at City as well. They are kidding nobody. Even if this is just a blip in spending for them he will get bored in the end and when he does they will not have the financial clout to compete at the top. At best they will have to do what Liverpool do and take risks. They won’t be able to do what City or United do which is to pay well over the odds to guarantee the top players. It doesn’t take long for the top players to see the direction a club is going in as well. After a year outside of the champions league I remember Hunterlaar saying he wouldn’t come here because we were no longer on the map. This will happen to them.

As detrimental as it is I think the club are giving Conte just enough rope to hang himself with. When he fails they can say "well we did back you look at how much we spent" knowing full well it wasn't enough.

Yes to this. Conte isn't playing ball and Abramovich doesn't put up with that. Conte will be gone by the summer. Unfortunately that means they will probably be bringing in Simeone. Or possibly Zidane.
