He's been speaking to Chelsea for months, if not a year, and has being telling them he's going to them.  To just then turn his back if and when Chelsea match our fee would be a bit of a shitty move, so I don't think we can paint him as some kind of arsehole for just sticking with a decision he's already given a football club.  I know we want him here, but it's not a crime to want to go somewhere else, no matter how absurd it seems on the outside.

I can and will.

do we really want a player who doesn't want to be here? of course we don't. which is the beauty of bidding on a player who doesn't want to be here. maybe we're happy to leave the money on the table as it will help us with other deals as we can claim it is effectively spent.

Good one

klopp knew there was no chance. he said this morning "we've agreed a fee with the club. we will see what that means". it could be a game from any angle - we might have just wanted to squeeze more money out of chelsea to fuck them over lavia. chelsea's last bid was 80m before the auction, brighton wanted 100m. we bid 110m as you do.

i don't believe for 1 second we were at the table to buy him. either he has played us or we were happy to fuck chelsea a bit and make the owners look smashing lads for putting the money on the table that they picked back up about 8 hours later.

Chelsea have no incentive to rush this one through do they. The price has been set, the player has assured them he’ll wait for them. If they want him they can take their time, hindering us. If they don’t want him they can take their time, hindering us. Hopefully Brighton tell them to get fucked and give them till tea time. Then we just have to negotiate our way through the end of the window with the whole world knowing we have £110m burning a hole in our pockets.

The price hasn't been set though, it's been agreed with us. Brighton are the ones who appear to have set a world first player auction, if my maths are right they have achieved £31m increase on the previous bid from Chelsea and £11m more than their original asking price.

Brighton are a selling club, if they like the look of this new model they may very well tell Chelsea to fuck off or come back with £150m in unused notes. There is no benefit to Brighton in allowing Chelsea back in at the agreed rate, the player will go to LFC anyway, the £111m is locked in. There are only downsides from Brightons point of view.

Why don't you just go and support Chelsea or something something something so, Johnny?

One thing that is very weird though, is the reports everywhere now are Caicedo saying he'll only join Chelsea, yet the only reason we'd have bid this much is if his reps had given us the nod he was interested?  Unless they've just used us to get it over the line, but that usually only involves rumours of "interest" not agreeing a fee.

or as i posted a couple back, we've just fucked chelsea for 30m on their last bid. they won't get him cheaper than the 110m on the table.

Maybe he should keep quiet about who he’s decided to sign for. And then he can come out onto the pitch just before kick off on Sunday with one of those gender reveal glitter cannon things and pull it. If it’s blue glitter, he’s signing for Chelsea. If it’s red glitter, he’s signing for us.

I don’t know about anyone else but I think that that would be peak pre-match entertainment!

That the club have been played by the player and his agent? Not done the requisite due diligence on find out whether he wants to play for us. Now ok the pair can just lie with absolute poker faces and there is little to nothing the Club can do about that but a bit more investigation may have been required.

If you believe that we have not had some encouragement about him being willing to join us for a fee of £111m, then I can't really help you.

He’s played us, simple as that. He’ll have known that any other club agreeing a fee with Brighton would force Chelsea’s hand.

If he wanted to come here, he’d be in Liverpool now having his medical. The only reason he’s still in London is obvious.

The club have done nothing wrong here in isolation. How we got to this point is another matter.

Behave yourself it’s not monopoly. You don’t bid like that as a bluff.
