Subscriptions - what's going on?

As someone who has never 'subscribed' but is a regular user i'll say this....

I have never used a forum before (and i have used a fair few down the years for footy, music and other sports) where 'subscribing' has been expected, and I have also been involved in running forums and i know from doing so costs are very, very minimal.

So i just don't see any reason at all to 'subscribe' here - if someone points out it is about the other site content away from the forum then sorry but for me that is simply not washing - i have next to zero interest in it and frankly find it no more worthy, no more interesting, engaging or no more informed than any of the opinion that is shared day in day out by the people who post on the forum - so why should i pay to read it?

Don't get me wrong if the lad/lads who run here want to try and make a living from it good luck to them - i sometimes bought the fanzine from outside the kop as i did RAOTL, but i see no reason at all for people to claim 'it blows their mind' that others don't see the use of an online forum as something they should pay for.

I use this site as a forum, to interact with other supporters, i know that running a forum costs next to nothing, so why would i want to pay to use one? Especially one that is full of ads....

People who feel they want to - hey fair do's - your choice, but for me - no.

My objective opinion: the addition of the Members Forum, which coincided or at least seems to have been added around the time that the old Rep/Neg system was overhauled, was a bit of a death knell for traffic / users. I'd have thought that keeping the old system, with absence of a "Premium Area", and driving pure ad revenue alongside the Rep/Neg system (which was something of a curious novelty for online LFC platforms) and continued strong user growth would  have been a more fruitful path, but I don't know the intricacies of the decision making / finances.

I dont really pay for the forum, I pay for Daves match reports and other articles. I think he does the best match reports around. The forum I do use a lot as I procrastinate. If it was just a forum I don't know if I'd pay for it as I doubt I'd of kept visiting the site at the start without the match reports but now I've used the forum for so long I may still continue paying even if the reports stopped. Who knows.

Match reports and the like for me as well. I want to read a match report warts and all.

I would suggest that someone who runs this kind of forum would look at it as a form of income and for that I'm in.

However, even though the subscription isn't required nothing beats the breakfast thread.

I can never take offence from the minority ie, anti bean muddafuckas.

Dave's match reports, and round ups are great.

Well worth the 2 quid a month.

Wait, it's gone up to 3 quid??  In that case...

And I think that's fair enough. Good on you for your honesty. I don't know how much Dave pays financially for running the forum, but I do know it takes a lot of his (and others') time and energy to maintain and update. Once upon a time he had the fanzine as a source of income, but that is no more. Instead, the fanzine content is here.

Perhaps "blows my mind" is a bit OTT. There are a number of Apps and YouTube channels that are free but I'll make a point of giving the creators some cash if I use them frequently. If for no other reason than it helps them.

The MF is only used by Stig commenting on the various arguments he's had on the GF.

The match threads are about half a page long.

The neg and rep system just needs binning, and tags need to come back.

Yep, the MF is a bit pointless these days. You don’t get much other than @Paulie Dangerously’s transfer scoops.

The FF is a lot better than in past times too, as all the worst trolls, like Rashid and Stu Monty, have moved to Twitter where they can get more attention.

In my opinion if you enjoy this site and use it regularly you have to ask yourself  "If everyone was the same as me and didn't pay, would the site exist?" The answer is probably no. Therefore you are relying on other people to pay for you, fair enough if you are skint, not so fair if you could afford the £3 a month.

The number of regular posters on here who aren't showing up in gold blows my mind. If you're on here a lot, is it too much to ask to contribute financially? A latte a month. Seriously? Here's the link

A latte a month?! Is it too much to request that the official forum currency of Freddos be referenced instead?

As others have said, Dave’s match reports are consistently excellent. Games are examined with a level of detail you don’t find elsewhere.

Worth it for the match reports, negging me and listening to me bitch in the busy bastards bitch thread for bitches and bastards.

Each to their own though and wrong to judge anyone whatever they decide to do.

The match reports are ace though and well worth it.

I don’t really use the MF or read the match reports but I pay because I’ve used the site for a hell of a long time now and even though I don’t really interact all that much compared to others, in fact I still don’t think I’ve ever negged anyone either unless I’ve done it accidentally.

Personally I don’t mind those that don’t pay as i did the same for years. I just felt that I can afford it at the moment so why not. The site keeps me distracted.
