Oh mate the Goran stuff was a fairy-tale throughout his career. Genuinely decent bloke as well and one of the hardest servers of the ball you could ever see. Sampras dominated his era though or he might have won more. Rafter was a great too.

Loved it when he came out with this stuff. Really self-deprecating and endearing bloke.

I was desperate for Agassi to beat him when they played in '92, purely because I loved Agassi and knew his game wasn't really suited to winning it in those days when it was all serve/volley. Didn't know if he'd ever get another chance as good as that one. As proved to be the case, when he only got one more bite and even then against a Sampras with plenty of his best left. I'm so glad Goran got to come back and eventually win it though, at his fourth attempt. Especially as he did it on that 'People's Monday' with what sounded relatively like a football crowd cheering him on.

Nobody else would have suited or deserved winning it in that particular atmosphere more than him. One of the great sporting fairytales that. Think it hardly gets mentioned as it was the year sandwiched between Sampras and Federer's eras, with the latter signifying the changing of the guard by putting out the former early on, so it always kind of gets missed. Fucking brilliant sporting theatre in it's own right though.

Oh mate I'll watch that Monday. Superb stuff. Thats the thing, a bit like when Krajieck on it in 96. Denmark 92 and Greece 2004 in the Euros. Its quickly forgotten until you're reminded. In-fact who even considers Portugal as Euro holders?
