He was brilliant and I'd love another proper striker like him, trouble is there's not many out and out strikers these days.

He broke a lot of hearts when he left, including his own.

He was but we're a much better attacking team now than we were then.  That was with a prime Steven Gerrard playing behind him too.  A man who made every striker he played with better, even Emile Heskey.

I always wonder if we'd have kept him long, had he stayed to play alongside Suarez. He'd played though injuries and his body was already on the decline.

I agree, he wasn't fully fit and didn't make much effort in some of the games near the end.

50 mill was great business with hindsight, the way we spent it wasn't.

The player, I loved the most. Absolutely loved to see him score, reckon Mo and Suarez are better players but never had same bond with a player like Torres. Remember just watching him at start of 07-08 season in awe, finally a proper fucking striker, no more cisse, baros, morientes, world class from the moment he got here. Best song we’ve had for a player, will always love the lad.

Great player, not as good as Suarez was though although a far more likeable lad.... until he joined Chelsea. Don't think any single transfer in our history has angered me more so for that, his reputation as an-Red went way down.

I can remember arguing with virtually everyone on here that transfer deadline day. I kept saying it was like selling Rush to buy Howie Gayle.

I was furious.

Returned from holiday with two brand new shirts. One Spain and one Liverpool for my lad with Torres on the back. Touching down after 14 hours just to find out he is gone. Well I needed a new holiday after I vented my anger.

Lost it for him completely there, just like with Owen. Although Torres clawed his way back to near forgiveness after he left the plastics. Owen is another story though, he should be an outcast not an ambassador.

He was great which makes me dislike him more. More for the things he was saying at the time and his titty lip just before he left. I was genuinely pleased when Agger nailed him and even more pleased when overall he was fairly shit for them when he was so spectacular for us. Suarez was better but an even bigger turd... pfff arsenal fucking arsenal.

I was pissed off when he left but at the same time could not blame him

He wasn't a local lad and was supposed to be in the prime of his career and was seeing the team around him sold off. Kenny might have just been in the job but Alonso,Mascherano and most of the Spanish players from the previous years had been sold off. The ownership saga had been playing out. We really where not in a good state and he had won fuck all in his career.

Can't blame him for going, the comments when he joined Chelsea were just normal signing shite and the lad must have known he was physically struggling too

Indeed, let’s be honest here, the man would have been the first one to know his body was shot.

I think playing injured in one of those international tournaments done him. 2010?

We have lost a fucking fair few players at international tournaments, not even just niggling but career fucking injuries

Redknapp - England

John Barnes - Achilles tear - England

Torres - Spain

It’s massive for the players though. I can see why they do it.
