There are currently six separate articles on the BBC football page about this transfer. They have honestly never had coverage like this before, this is their moment in the sun, buying a bunch of half decent players, recoup most of the outlay by selling their most valuable asset, possibly another to follow in Barkley and bringing back a former player who is spent at this level. Let them enjoy the moment I say.

I bet Colleen has to tuck him in of a night and read him a bedtime story.

I was made up when Robbie Fowler came home and I can understand why they love it. The main difference of course is that Robbie did all his boss stuff at us.

Nah nowhere near mate, we left Fowler he didn't leave us, Rooney left the shite in his prime.

Rooney has been rubbish for two years at least, but maybe the change of scenery will do him good.  I also think he behaved really well last year, taking being dropped and shunned quietly and without kicking off, which really surprised me.  He kept his mouth shut and kept his head down, so credit to him.

That said, the "it's like getting back with your girlfriend" guff from blue noses is embarrassing.  If your girlfriend binned you off at the very first opportunity for the first flash prick that chatted her up, openly flaunted it in your face for over a decade, then when he moved on to a younger model she came crawling back as damaged goods pretending that while she was seeing the world with the new bloke she loved you, sat in a council flat rotting in your own filth and misery, all along, then the analogy may fit.

Their relationship with Rooney is fascinating. He's contributed nothing to their club whatsoever, binned them off at the earliest opportunity (in his teens, no less!), and is returning as the prodigal son now that he's a fat, old, disinterested reject.

He knew even if he played a bit part role he could beat Charltons goal scoring record so it was in his interest not to rock the boat plus he was getting 250-300k a week.
