It's in character from what I recall, they're meant to be the youngest and most out-there of the Dwarves. Obviously as there are 13 characters for the audience to identify there has to be a slight broadening to accentuate such character traits.

The dwarfs are not hefty enough

Characteristics

In The Silmarillion, the Dwarves are described as shorter and stockier than Elves and Men, able to withstand both heat and cold. Though they are mortal, Dwarves have an average lifespan of 250 years.[17]

They are the youngest. But those are not dwarves. They haven't accentuated any of the actual character traits that they had in the book, in terms of their appearance. They've toned them down to the point that they aren't recognisably dwarves at all. It could almost be Eomer and Aragorn, looking at that picture.

Really not that imprssed with some.Reading the books dwarfs have certain characteristics and so many of these lack them.Kili and Fili are disgraceful, the less said about Bofur/Nesbitt the better. He is pissing me off allready and i have not seen anything of it yet.Oin,Gloin and Dwalin are proper dwarfs.

Good thread his!

Don't think Jackson gets casting/characters right all the time. I was and still am totally unimpressed and unconvinced by Hugo weaving as elrond.

Weaving was one of the best things about the original trilogy. He was, as always, fantastic.

Do you need a Honours Degree in 'I've never had a girlfriend' to remember the name and storylines of LOTR and The Hobbit?

Fuck me, it's complicated.

Nah, you just need to pay attention.

If you think that's complicated, try reading the Silmarillion. I'm convinced Tolkien was having a brain haemorrhage when he was writing it.

I tried to read The Silmarillion when I was 12 or 13. It hurt my head and I gave up after 20 pages.

Never been tempted back.
