Disappointing from Spain but fair play to the Swiss. They were organised, disciplined and hard working. Once Senderos went off they were much more solid at the back, and Spain kept knocking balls into the box, which suited Switzerland fine. Can see Inler and Benaglio both possibly in the Premiership next season (Arsenal linked with them both strongly), and both were impressive today. I reckon that Lichensteiner will end up at Inter if Maicon goes to Real as well.

What a shit World Cup this has been. Absolutely awful for the most part.

We've just had a massive fucking shock result you never see, the European champions unable to break a strong Swiss back line and give them a lesson in defending, how the hell can anyone say that added to the shit World cup tag ?? great game.

Exactly.

How the fuck did Spain lose that game? All of the ball, created chances and just couldn't score. Everyone is going on about how well Switzerland played but if Iniesta's shot is 3 inches to the left and Alonso's shot is 3 inches lower, then Spain win and everyone drools over their football.

Switzerland didn't block those shots, they were just really unlucky not to go in. One of those days unfortunately for Spain.

I thought that Del Bosque missed a trick with his selection; Busquets just wasn't needed at all. Alonso totally ran the game (he was awesome) and the Swiss were so deep that Spain needed two strikers on the pitch from the start. I'm sure we'll see Torres start the next game

As for David Silva, he's in Frank Ribery territory; over-rated beyond belief.

The Swiss defended well, but Spain didn't score because they weren't smart with the ball. Spain beat themselves.

Nah. Rafa's got his eye on another Swiss right-back!

Everybody has now played a game, and the surprise result comes from the last two sides left to play. It was exactly like when Spain played the USA last year, although the Swiss were opened up far less than the Americans.

The Barcelona midfield twins are looking a little burnt-out it seems. Torres was rusty and it showed. We've seen him pounce on those many times, run through and pass it beyond the keeper. This time his touch was a little heavy.

Navas made a difference early on, but then failed to pick out a teammate despite umpteen crosses.

I would certainly not write them off though. Quite often you see top teams lose their opening game, then get through to the final anyway. I'm thinking Argentina in 1990 and Italy in 1994. The current Spanish team are much better than those two, but need to show a bit more urgency. A striker playing off the last defender would help then find space in behind.

They have the ability, but they just need the will.

Fooking bookies must be loving this World cup the twats.

Spain huffed and puffed but didn't have enough to blow a dolls house over in the end. Swiss defended superbly for a lot of that match. Be a serious lack of masturbating over Spain on the internet tonight.

Makes this group interesting now and indeed who will play who in the last 16.
