Mixed feeling for Camra, one on hand they've won.  The campaign is a success and real ale is widely sold.  On the other hand their wives have still left, their kids still avoid their calls and the one thing they had to do with their weeknights is now gone.

Went to a pub in Cardiff once who took a deposit for the glass of your shoe.

Trying to select some craft beers for the fridges in our new bar. I'm going through a supplier's list with her last night:

"Kwak, Snake Dog, Chimay...."

and she's just shaking her head at every one I mention.

"Those won't sell, we need ones that'll sell".

I mention Duvel.

"Yeah we'll have that one."

I asked her why that one (I knew at this point that this was the only one she'd ever heard of)

"Well because I've heard of it and so will other people".

I'm trying to explain to her that people who like craft and foreign ales will have heard of all the ones I'd mentioned so far but she's having none of it.

"Timmermanns?"

"Yes we need that, I've heard of that one too"

 

This is going to be a looong fucking job.

Kwak and Chimay are both great and fairly well known and would sell well. Timmermanns is shite.

That looks like a Tomy kids version of the original Kwak scaffold thing to me. The proper one is about twice as tall and far more elegant. These days you are far more likely to just get a tall glass of the same shape with a flat bottom.

 

If you don't respect Kwak you'll end up looking like a twat soon enough anyway.
