Art....

One artist I didn't learn about at School was Wassily Kadinsky, a Russian artist who is credited with painting one of the first purely abstract works. I love his paintings. This is his Composition VII from 1913.

Went to Florence a few years back. (Honeymoon in 2011).  Absolutely loved - and really got into - all the Renaissance stuff, but these days I can barely remember the name of any artist who isn't a turtle.

If you go to Florence, you're best bet is to get a Firenze Card, which gets you access into about a million places in a 72 hour period.

Not an expert on art myself but it's great to have look at the paintings and marvel on how they done it all those years ago.

The likes of James Fox ad his documentaries do a good job of explaining and introducing you to it

Caravaggis is terrific , a bit of a loon apparently as is Rembrandt who painted himself throughout his life, I also think William Hogarth is great to along with the more modern ones like Hopper etc though they're all great in their own way.
