In The Name Of The Father

The war against terror?

(Ace film by the way, possibly my favourite of any genre).

Full Metal Jacket is probably the one for me. I would also put Saving private ryan up there. I know it's a bit schmaltzy, but I can watch that again and again and again.

I thought The Pacific was really disappointing. Band of Brothers, though...

I very much agree, and didn't stick with the pacific for long. I watched band of brothers over and over again as my mate had the box set, and it's still probably the best tv series I've ever watched.

Genuinely surprised that nobody has mentioned Terence Malick's The Thin Red Line. One of the most thought provoking and moving takes on war i've seen. Superb cast, awesome cinematography and a brilliant soundtrack by Hans Zimmer.

I tried to read the book and couldn't stick with it - years ago, mind - and later watched the first ok but was bored by it.

might need to give it another go based on that comnent

Sorry wasnt meant to come across that way. The practice of dubbing every foreign movie is not that common is all. In fact I have always been a proponent of the "dubbing is evil" campaign.

I prefer watching films in the original tone as the German dubbing can be utter wank at times and they only have a smallish pool of voice actors doing the voice overs. Humour within films is often lost due to translation.

Watching Saving Private Ryan again last night, and although a great film, I am always pissed off when they slag Montgommery off(the bit with Ted Danson and Tom hanks). It just out of context with the film and feels like it's the typical 'us Yanks won the war on our own' vibe. I don't think there was any need for it in the film, especially when the whole film goes on about how FUBAR the American invasion plan was.
