Carvalho is going to be phenomenal IMO. I didn't think he had the pace to play out wide, but he looks a lot quicker than his main comparison Coutinho was, who always struggle playing out wide. Have no idea who's going to break in between Carvalho and Elliott, but one is going to start getting regular starts by the second half of the season IMO as the advanced 8/number 10. They can play midfield and bring something we don't currently have.

You mean, the only position he actually excelled in ever?

This is the first game of pre season I’ve sat down to watch.

the kid Carvalho looks absolutely brilliant.

Elliott as well was so sharp & direct.

Both of these lads will be pushing to get decent minutes in the league this year.

No I mean an attacking midfield role, since every time he actually played wide he was all but invisible. His last 2 seasons he lined up on a wing but basically played as a wide central attacking mid narrowing our shape, since he had neither the pace, nor physicality to impact the game from that position playing it how Klopp actually wanted a winger to play. His last half season with Salah and Mane talking the wing spots he pretty much played solely as an advanced 8 and was absolutely on a tear with 13 goals. The role and output he had in his last half season is what I'd envisage we'd ideally want from an advanced 8 type in our system, but with better defensive work rate.

Bajcetic might make a defensive midfielder, Morton doesn't look like one (and Bajcetic has played more at the position despite being a year younger).

Maybe we are starting to see why we weren't desperate to sign a midfielder this summer.... need to see more, especially defensively if he's going to play as a 6, but in possession he looks fantastic.

Yeah, I'm going to guess you either never watched him play for us, or just started watching football altogether.

I think there's definitely a point in the season, when he's in and around the personal rewards, where he get's so single minded that he'll take the extra touch or beat one too many players in pursuit of a goal instead of making the right decision to pass the ball.

Full game is here for anyone with a couple of hours to kill, or the goals and replays are time stamped in the comments. Worth a watch if only for the commentary, the guy absolutely nailed it haha.
