    Naby Keita

Judging on how many people seem have come into the medical side of the club over the last 18 months I do wonder if there was an element of they were told/it was considered that there wasn't loads of money so persevere/fix/maximise what you have got. One of them being a £52m midfielder. Of course, Klopp is always looking for marginal gains and naturally you want the best medical support you can have but there seems to be a lot of focus on getting Naby, the Ox and Matip fit. Plus I do think he specifically has a soft spot for Naby and Thiago as he mentioned before they were the 2 best midfielders in Germany when he was there. I would be interested to know how much the analytics company play in the decisions made about who plays. Klopp's comment the other day about Hendo missing the game cause at the last minute something was spotted. Made it sound like Hendo himself hadn't given much indication of an issue.

Thanks. Yeah, interesting points. I imagine what you are saying does drive the decision. With Wards background I would imagine that if it is a route that we were looking to exploit it, he would be well positioned to do it. It was interesting that we have been linked a bit more to players from Brazil. The striker at Santos, the lad from Fluminese and lastly this João Gomes. My ears pricked up when he was linked because you don't often hear them say about wanting to move to Liverpool and I did wonder if something was in the offing. It will be interesting to see how it develops if FSG, as rumoured, buy one of the clubs there. Potential goldmine for them and us. I get your comment about the difference in climate and culture very much, my wife is Brazilian, the climate here may get mentioned on the odd occasion!

Uhmmm...not for me then. Going back to Naby, would be interested to know his appearance record and performances compared pre and post him collapsing after playing for Leipzig. My initial memories of him was this player that was all energy and everywhere but for us he looks jaded half the time.

He has had quite a few injuries hasn't he?

He seems the sort of player that if we liked him then he would be worth a punt on before going to Benfica. He has moved for €10m upfront with €8m in installments. If he is quality you would expect him to be £50-60m next summer and you wouldn't expect us to do that on top of say a Bellingham/big name signing. Apparently Benfica won the race for his signature so maybe we were in for him but the above suggests we weren't. Personally would like, if we can get work permits, to be trying to take a punt on these types from the River Plates, International, Santos, Boca Juniors first.

If we really are stupid enough to offer him a 4 year deal he should be biting their hands off. He must have some ego to be unhappy!

Agree. Albeit I fear that won't happen and unless Leipzig test the water or Naby pushes to go he will be here next season.

    Our midfield

Have there been any training pics this week? Think the Echo said yesterday that there weren't any all last week which was probably because of all of the injuries.

So Leipzig are interested, we don't want to sell, our relationship with his agent is strong and he hasn't communicated anything of his unhappiness yet to them. However Sky Sports D are close to his agency. Be interesting to see if it is a negotiating tactic or what happens if he asks to go.

A transfer market is fluid. I had confidence that the club could see that we needed to make changes and the owners would back them so they wouldn't go into the season with the midfield options we currently have. I didn't believe Klopp a few weeks ago when he said the midfield wasnt missing anything and he couldn't understand why anyone was saying they needed a midfielder. Last week he then admitted they have had loads of conversations over the summer about buying players and they are either not available or the situation is very difficult. That suggests - inspite of his public protestations at the time - they were trying to do deals to bring someone in. Maybe they will still do a deal. Maybe Klopp saying they are still ok to avoid getting shafted on the price because we look desperate. However, I think.the fact that Klopp was so open about their private conversations about buying players, something he never really does with the press, suggests its unlikely now and I don't see why us selling a player would change that situation unless the real blocker is our owners. But of course I am speculating about what the club may or may not do. Most people seem to do that on here.

I am not sure even if Naby left we would replace him. Jurgen said we would only be active if someone left or we had bad injuries. Now we have had a few injuries he said we will only sign the right player and if they had been available they would have done it by now. What changes if Naby goes? Why would that player be available? Unless the owners won't sanction a move for a player until we sell someone

This reminds me of the day we bid £30m for Andy Carroll and Newcastle rejected and I was laughing at how they were silly enough to reject it, only for us to be daft enough to bid more! If Naby is daft enough to reject any contract offer hopefully we aren't daft enough to offer more.

What did Klopp say before the injuries, nobody new unless some asked to leave? That said, if he is on a bosman perhaps he will just sit out his deal now.

    Our midfield

I think that is a fair point. Often our strategy seems on a number of things to be completely inflexible.
