Arsenal Post-Wenger

Not exactly. He was never allowed to implement what he wanted and the players, who are very close to the President of the club, went to complain to him when Emery tried to change things.

He deserves blame for the ridiculous exit to Barca but he was given a raw deal otherwise. PSG is a circus where the players do what they want and it's basically impossible for anyone to truly impose themselves there.

You can basically erase his time in France from his CV as it's not an indication of anything.

Biggest gang of shithouses in world football. The club epitomises everything that is wrong with modern footy.

It's a safe appointment. Someone who's won trophies and has a style of play, but he won't be setting the world alight.

The Tuchel/Emery situation is interesting. Despite Emery having won more, I'd have preferred Tuchel if I was an Arsenal supporter and I think PSG are upgrading.

The players complaining is exactly what will happen with the arsenal players though. Ozil was allowed to do what he wanted by Wenger and Aubameyang isn’t the shy type either.

If you’re solely analyzing his performances in league terms then he only did well with Valencia and this season.

Ironically having safeguarded the club's finances for a decade, Wenger proceded to burn through their cash reserves in his final few seasons. Less concerned by this appointment than if they had the Lacazette/Xhaka cash to spend and contracts like Oezil & Mkhitariyan off the books. He will be hamstrung by those, and they are a soft team. I think it is probably very difficult to turn out worse league performances than Wenger with that attacking talent, but then again I also wouldn't be surprised if he becomes Arsenal's equivalent to Jacques Santini.

This sounds exactly like Real Madrid, but without the European Cups.

With the number of names linked, it has clearly been an indecisive process. Would not be surprising to learn that Buvac was a contender to be interviewed, which would lend credence to the story, and may have been the root of his distance from the club. But who knows. Hopefully we see him back at the club.

The PSG players complain because the President enables them. It's a unique situation in elite club football and it's the reason why they repeatedly fail against the biggest clubs. They have zero structure or accountability.

He's not gonna have that problem at Arsenal as they basically have an absentee board who will let him do what he wants and he's not made it a habit of falling out with players before coming to France. The falling out with players thing is rubbish.

But as to his actual ability as a manager I agree that he's not brilliant.

It's not that unique, Chelsea have done it. They're going to do it this week. In regards to the Arsenal board, every report I've read on this says he got it over Arteta because he was willing work in their structure more than Arteta was. He's not going to have that much freedom, they don't want anyone else to have it after Wenger.

He's an intense manager and does rub players up the wrong way. Maybe falling out with them was the wrong choice but his methods have pissed off a lot of people.

Some Arsenal fans are pissed off with this news. Pissed off that a manager who's won trophies for 5 consecutive seasons has been picked ahead of an assistant manager that's never managed a game of football in his life.
