Why not? We were better when Coutinho came on.

First of all because Coutinho is a vastly superior player to Henderson.

 

Secondly because the game against the mancs will require considerably more defensive work than this one. Which feels strange typing, as we could easily have lost by a couple of more goals tonight.

he is.  But moving Lallana into midfield gave some urgency to our game and we actually started linking midfield and attack.  Lallana was poor tonight, but you can see how important he is in that midfield.  Coutinho will get plenty of game time in the next few weeks, we need him to be fit and more importantly in form if we are to stay within touching distance of the top.

I don't rate Lallana half as highly as you do, but he has been our best player this season and I believe it's in no small part because of playing next to Hendo. Lallana's best quality for me is that he's always on the move on and off the ball. Hendo gives it real quick (often too quick for my liking). Together, they make our midfield fluid and dynamic. Last night with Can and Lucas, as we saw it didn't quite work for Lallana... as they both like to hold the ball a bit and slow down the play.

they were all poor to average all game.  Watching those three pass backwards and sideways for 75 minutes, and Henderson's role in the first goal, can't be dismissed just because he set up our goal.  And the same for Wijnaldum.  He scored, and he's getting amongst the goals now, but he's offering almost nothing else.
