World Cup 2014

Seems to be working for the Dutch

That's true. They're a counter attacking team though really aren't they? Which makes their formation in possession slightly less important, and also, because of that, unlike Argentina, they're not attempting to dominate possession in the opposition's half.

Argentina's lack of midfield has led to their lack of control, which has made them more and more direct, and lacking in patience. They look very disjointed.

A few minutes ago, Maxi had a shot from 30 yards which flew over. The commentator mentioned the worldy he scored against the Mexicans in 2006, to which Lawrenson started talking about the 30-pass goal in that same tournament. The commentator never bothered to correct him by saying that goal was by Cambiasso and not Maxi.

It's quite amazing just how much the people involved in bringing us match coverage just do not give a fuck about accuracy. There is a long-established culture of just talking and talking even if you are merely talking shite. Some of them positively revel in how uneducated, lazy and arrogant they sound.

The co-commentator in the Switzerland-Ecuador game earlier, just after Ecuador went 1-0 up: "[Ecuador] should be considered second favourites to qualify from this group.  Having seen Jackson Martinez in the Champions League this season for Porto, it shows their quality that he can't even get in the side!"

That would probably because he gets in the Colombian side instead.  Being, ya know, Colombian.

Then I realised it was professional cockbag Clark Carlisle and it all made sense.
