Fallout 4

I got a PS4 and this for Christmas and got going this morning. I'm out of the shelter and have found the dog. I've blundered into crafting and settlement building (with the latter utterly bewildering), but feel overwhelmed with the jargon and sheer volume of options.

So I'd very much appreciate it if some of you Fallout heads could give me some top tips on the absolute fundamental basics of the game please. Like what are perks, what are settlements, how you regain health, etc. Proper Fallout baby stuff. Why the fuck they couldn't provide that shit for the cost of the fucking thing, I don't know. Thanks in anticipation.

Just been to Conchord, saved them cunts from the Raiders, got the Power Armour and killed the Deathclaw then got them all safely to Sanctuary and now I've got a few side quests as well as having to head to Diamond City.

Am I right in thinking the best thing to do with the Power Armour is store it in Sanctuary for the time being as it weighs a ton and there are only a finite supply of fusion cores and they don't appear to last that long (sure mine had nearly ran out by the time I got to Sanctuary) or should I still wear it even though it isn't powered on?

I have only ever used power armour after that in the Green Sea. Even then, only if I'm travelling any sort of distance through it. Depends what style of play you like though. I have way more full sets of power armour than the times I've used it.

Best advice for power armour is to take the power core out of it after you exit it so people don't go joyriding in it. I have loads of them standing around in Red Rocket.

I ditched that power armour before leaving the museum and escorting those folks back. I thought it was going to make the game far too easy. Same with the dog. I wanted to be a lone wolf.

I haven't played much more since my last post though. Been pretty busy. Didn't get out of bed til late today though so might play it until the early hours.

No, I want to. I can't work it out though.

What do you want to do?

Advanced settlement building is something you want to tackle later in the game when you've amassed a lot of resources, discovered most of the settlements and picked the location you want to concentrate on most.

Early game do the standard building of recruitment towers basic defenses and basic resources for the XP without ploughing too much into it.

It pays to have a personal location to store all your loot so whether you want to use sanctuary or red rocket as your base is up to you.

Got there in the end. Thanks for the reply though.

Invested probably about 20 hours in to it over the past few days, but still only done two main mission quests (and 12 others for various people). Just had my first dealing of the Synths with the Brotherhood fella when you clear out the ArcJet facility, and the gun he gave me was fucking sweet, used it to clear all the Mutants and Robots out of the Public Library.

Been easier than I thought it'd be, although I have been going round with the dog. Got thousands of bottlecaps and loads of chems after hijacking the drugs deal by Back Street Apparel and the variety of weapons has made it a breeze so far (a well placed petty bomb is the most effective way I've found to kill multiple foes). Need to sort my armour out, only using some pocketed alloyed metal stuff that I've crafted.

The graphics are a bit disappointing considering how much time they had to make this one, but it's a fucking incredible game; I'll be ploughing a ridiculous amount of time in to this.
