There is nothing wrong with our midfield

When fit, Lallana and Coutinho should play in a midfield three against everybody except the top 5.

 

We don't need Can or Wijnaldum along with Henderson against teams who only look to score through a counter or set-piece.

If City can play De Bruyne and Silva in a midfield three with fernandino covering them. Coutinho and lallana could easily play in a three with a good DM behind them.

It will be interesting to see how it pans out. A friend of mine over here (Everton fan, poor chap) watched our game yesterday and said we’re starting to move on without Coutinho. Food for thought.

We are less dependent on Coutinho because we have more both quality and depth in the attacking side of the squad.

 

All about strengthening the defensive side now, DM/CM, CBx2 and then goalkeeper.

If we want to compete (both in the league and in Europe) it seems obvious we need a creator in our midfield three. Thats why Coutinho has been moved back - ironically into the position he would fill if he left for one of the teams in the world we would be chasing.

So we could have one water carrier next to someone skilled who can at a minimum read the game at a top level - if we want to get picky he should be able to cover some ground and hold the ball under pressure.

At best both wiji and Hendo are water carriers at that level.
