Just seen some of the footage on the news and it does look awful. They're reporting that 3 have died so far.

 

Incidentally, today is Patriots' Day in Massachusetts, which they observe on the third Monday in April. The Red Sox normally play a home game on the day and the marathon passes nearby while the game is in progress. There would have been a lot of people out and about.

 

The fact that it's being reported as explosions automatically makes you think of a bombing. If that is indeed the case, it's very reminiscent of Timothy McVeigh and Oklahoma City.
