Is rapee a word?

Anyway, you know the story, the woman was raped in 1988. 16 years later, her attacker won £7m on the lottery and she's claiming damages. Big legal case still ongoing. Someone less lazy than me could dig out a link to the story.

Opinions? Should she have a right to his money?

Was she awarded damages in 1988?

Well I guess its a bit naughty and in real life she shouldnt be entitled to a penny - I assuming that on the basis that he has already been punished for this crime in view of how long ago it was.. plus what was the nature of the rape - matrimonial, date, attacked in the street?? all have a bearing..

All that I side I would certainly try if it were me - you dont know your luck or the stupidity of our legal system until you have tried it!!!

Man that's a hard one, my heart says yes she should fucking have it all while he's turned slowly over a spit.

But my head says (and I don't know the background - but presumably he's done time for it???) he's paid his debt and what he does from now on should be his own business and shouldn't be blighted by the past.

If criminals are going to be forever pursecuted after they've been punished, you may as well just keep them in jail forever or inject them with domestos.

I have to say I prefer the idea of turning them on a spit to injecting with Domestos but only from a time constraint point of view!!

Depends on the nature of the 'rape' too could be he was a young lad knobbing an equally young girl or could be the girl cried rape after her bf found out she had shagged around on him - to conseal the infidelity.. without all the facts its difficult to say!!!

Domestos is too good for some criminals - e.g. those guilty of calling the English language "shit".

Bacon is the answer.

Rapist scoops £7m on Lotto Extra

A man serving a life sentence for attempted rape has won £7m on the National Lottery. Iorworth Hoare, 52, was on release from Leyhill open prison in Gloucestershire when he bought his winning ticket for Saturday's Lotto Extra draw.

He is understood to have been staying at a bail hostel in Middlesbrough.

Hoare, who has a history of previous sex crimes, including rape, was one of three winners to share Saturday's £21m Lotto Extra jackpot.

Under Home Office guidelines, prisoners on temporary release from jail are allowed to play the lottery and can claim a winning prize.

But the government department also said the prisoner's access to the money would be restricted while he was in custody.

Tory leader Michael Howard said there seemed to be "something very odd in the arrangements" that allowed prisoners to play the lottery.

"Prisoners are not allowed to do the football pools, they are not allowed to buy premium bonds but they are allowed to buy lottery tickets. That doesn't seem to make sense," Mr Howard said.

Hoare, originally from Leeds, is nearing the end of his life sentence after being jailed in 1989 for attempted rape.

He was also jailed several times for a string of sex attacks during the 1970s and 1980s. He received a seven-year sentence for rape in 1983.

Experts believe that Hoare could now be forced to pay compensation to his victims.

Dr Ian Edwards, lecturer in criminal law at the University of East Anglia, says victims are entitled to sue for any loss or harm they have suffered from their attacker.

He said: "The question usually is whether it's worth suing, because an offender may not have any money.

"I have heard of cases where victims of sex attackers have successfully sued their attacker."

But Dr Edwards, who specialises in victims' rights, said he had never heard of a case where an offender has suddenly become very wealthy.

One of the victims was 60 and she must be in her 80s now if she's still alive.

Just Wu Tang him. "...and keep FEEDIN you, and keep FEEDIN you, and keep FEEDIN you..."

I agree with most of whats been said - however bad your crime, once you've served your punishment, then that's that. If she gets money out of him it could set a dangerous precedent.

Man what an absolute fucking moral minefield!

If he was still technically serving his sentence when he bought the ticket then he shouldn't get to keep any of it IMO, only if his conviction was spent.

Presumably there's a whole host of things he's not allowed to do (such as leave the country without permission if he's still on parole etc) so no, he shouldn't be allowed to enjoy the money either and it should be used to ease some of the wrongs he's commited.

He is a monster, a dispicable deviant and a millionaire (not that unusual actually)...

Its not the fact that he was allowed to buy lotto tickets that really sickens me but the fact that he got life for a crime and was in a bail hostel.. why the fuck wasnt such a disturbed piece of shite behind bars??

Thats the reason this woman should be able to take his sorry fucked up ass to the cleaners.. eithtr that or his win should be donated to victims of crimes such as the ones he is prone to and she should be able to sue the courts for misrepresentation when giving out his sentance all those years ago!

He commits a heinous crime against a woman, the effects of which will undoubtedly remain with her for the rest of her life, affecting her relationships, self-esteem and mental health. He does seven years (fuck all) and then wins the lottery and gets to live in luxury while she struggles on under the yoke of what he did to her? Fuck what the law says, it's just not right. She should have the money - fuck some rapist twat.

Bacon is probably not the answer - otherwise the Prison Service will get sued by Muslim prisoners!

They gave me a regular sausage roll in Sayers instead of a veggie one in 2000... maybe I should sue them for millions too.

My single biggest gripe with most legal systems: A life sentence should mean life. As in, you go in alive, you come out in a wooden box. Do not pass go, do not collect 7 million pounds. If that seems unfair, well DON'T MURDER ANYONE and STOP RAPING PEOPLE.

What has winning the lottery got to do with his crimes? The woman in question should get nothing. He does his time as per the law and he gets out and enjoys his money. It's not his fault they don't lock him up for life, and if the woman is as devasted as she claims to be then surely money isn't going to help.

This bloke paid his quid and got lucky. You can't argue that there should be a "does he deserve the money though" questionnaire to fill out for every winner! At least with a couple of mill in the kitty he'll be able to afford some quality whores to get his end away with, meaning the streets are a safer place.

Unless you're a quality whore.

Surprising as it might be, I agree with this. Not the whores part, I'm sure there's many a rapist who could have visited a prostitute had he been so inclined. Rape isn't about wanting sex, but that's for another thread.
