Newcastle at home - Rafa's return - 23/04/2016

Well that was a pisser. Klopp probably left those changes too late. We needed that double change at 2-1 when we were being overrun. It at least gave us the platform to shore up at the back and get back to attacking, but that was two points thrown away.

2 up at home to two of the bottom three and drop 4 points...no wonder we can't mount a proper challenge for the top 4 let alone the title.

Every time this shower start to look like they might have something about them they throw in a performance like this to remind us what they really are.

Wow, that was a pretty pathetic 2nd half. Starts up top, when Sturridge and Firmino can't be arsed to put more effort in than that, we're always going to struggle. Could argue that it starts from the back too of course, but we all know that Mignolet is piss poor, so not much you can do about that.

If Klopp doesn't make a new first team goalie his main priority, much of his good work will be undone.

Mignolet and Firminio poor, and our subs were useless.  Fair play to Newcastle for going for it.  They were as good in the second half as they were poor in the first.

Randall is not really worth a spot at the moment.  It was a poor second half performance by us all round.  Momentum lost before Thursday, which is really disappointing.  Still lots of work to do.

People are talking about this like it was a Newcastle fightback, but it wasn't.  I'd be happy to give them and Rafa credit if they had really come and taken it to us that second half, but they were just as poor the second as they were the first.

Mignolet gifted them an opener, then the ref bottled a penalty call, then they got a lucky deflection.  Did they even have a half-dozen shots in the game?  They were terrible.

To be fair to Benitez, he's got them playing a lot better than they were earlier in the season.  That was a better performance than Everton could muster in the week.

The subs worked. Allen, good as he'd been in the first half, was completely outmuscled and overrun. The changes stopped them overrunning us, prevented any further chances for Newcastle, and allowed us to mount the attacks we hadn't been able to in the second half. We needed better balls in the final third.
