I like Trent, he's a fantastic footballer. It seems he thinks he's a fantastic chess player as well:

No lad, you won't surprise anyone. You'll lose any way Magnus sees fit.

I have a better chance of making it through 90 mins playing up front with Suarez, Coutinho and Messi than you have getting a draw with Magnus.

Trent lost to the Chess World Champion in 17 moves, apparently he did well to play for that long as Bill Gates lasted 9 moves.

Modern football rubbish! Should use his spare time improving his defending, etc. This sort of nonsense wouldn’t have flied under Fagan.

Would have been interesting to see how Moreno got on against this guy.

He'd have probably tried to use one of his pawns to jump on the Queen's head and call it a win.

As a bit of a chess nerd (not great at it, but I find it fascinating to study) I was very interested in this game, but ... well, TAA is shocking in this game.

That b6 move is inexplicable. It's the sort of move an engine might make when you set it to level 1 and the computer is just trying its best to hand you the game. Also getting your rook and knight forked is a pure amateur move as well.

All in all, Trent should definitely not quit his day job. I'm pretty sure my 11-year old son could defeat him pretty handily at chess.
