I went into the game not really caring as the league is most important for me. However, it's hard not to let the chimp out and you forget that it's a scratch side with a few first teamers. It was turgid though and only gomez,Arnold,Wilson and Ojo actually played well tonight. The rest were average to poor. But we're through and it's a win. Happy days. Up the woeful reds.

Humiliating him...... Behave... He did that to Himself.

Irrespective of what you think of him he was our most likely source of a goal. He would of buried that pen and had we conceded and had it gone to extra time. He was uncharacteristically sloppy tonight, but he still should of had a penalty first half and he was linking with the attacking midfielders far better than Origi. He didn't deserve thaf.

Not the greatest display but we came away from the Ginster's Paradise with the win thanks to a combination of rarities - Lucas with the goal from a corner!

Apart from the first half chance when Trent A-A made a last ditch challenge, it was only that second half effort that hit the post with Karius beaten when Plymouth actually posed any danger where it counts. Lucas and especially Gomez were very solid and composed. The youngster had an excellent game.

Sturridge and Origi both tended to make decent runs when the ball was unlikely to find them, and Sturridge in particular seemed to be caught on his heels an awful lot. Still, he tends to get at least one effort on goal generally and he had one tonight, which was saved by the keeper after a good one-two with Origi. Origi struggled to get himself into the game at times, and it was a tame penalty. He hammered one over the bar moments later after holding off his marker. He needed that sort of venom and intent with his penalty though.

By and large, Plymouth were far more direct and looking to have a go that they had been at Anfield, so there were spells when we were under the cosh. Moreno of all people played with assurance and defensive diligence as well as constantly providing an attacking outlet.

Woodburn looked brighter when Klopp switched things to a 4-2-3-1 (moving Ejaria back alongside Stewart), and both Ojo and Wilson did well when they came on. Wilson nearly scored when the keeper blasted the ball straight at him.

I can't finish this one without mentioning the referee. He was one of those shit cunts who sees things that aren't there, and misses things that are. Gomez did fuck all and got booked, yet the 'Tyrone from Snatch' playing up front for them was allowed to barge him about at will. Sturridge was brought down for a penalty which the referee waved away, then when the ball went out of play soon afterwards on the touchline after coming off one of our players, he gave it a few seconds before deciding it was our throw-in. It looked like he knew he'd fucked one up there and wanted to redress the balance. Shite.

Lastly, that football chant to the tune of 'Don't Take Me Home' or whatever its called needs binning pronto. Small-time shite which should be left to clubs who play music when their team scores a goal.

No one will remember the performance but it says a lot about our youngsters and fringe players.

Karius had nothing to do and yet still looked poor. Lucas and Gomez struggled against a very limited attack. Stewart is just shite. Woodburn looks like a player currently believing his own hype (but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt because of his age and inexperience). Can't remember Ejaria doing anything of note and Sturridge and Origi looked like they were trying to prove why Klopp starts with no centre forward.

Ojo and Wilson impressed to be fair.

All that said - we need to strengthen badly.

Positives:

- nice for Lucas to get a goal (perhaps his last game?)

- Trent Alexander-Arnold was excellent

- Ojo was also quite good in his 15 minutes

- Woodburn looked decent up front, and even better when he came into midfield

- nice to see a ref call a pen when the player got a shot away in the box, so often many think

"well, he got the shot off, so he can't be fouled afterwards" which is crazy

- Coutinho got a few minutes, so he's closer to match-fit

Negatives:

- Origi was WOEFUL. Was on track for a 2/10, but that run/shot right at the end might have bumped him up to a 3 or a 4. Still terrible, that penalty was shocking.

- Sturridge looks completely lost

- All the rest of our backup players looked average and/or off the pace

Woodburn was poor on the right but looked better as no.10 but that is not a problem at the moment. Ojo is maybe the answer to Mané being unavailable. Looked a threat when he came on. TAA is the real deal
