Platini calls for debt crackdown Tuesday, 13 January 2004 Players: Edgar Davids Teams: BarcelonaRomaJuventusFrench legend Michel Platini says that big European clubs should be relegated if they continue to run up big debts. The former Juventus man targeted clubs such as Roma and Barcelona who continue to splash out on big-name players despite reportedly running up huge debts. Platini says that European leagues should follow the example of Le Championnat in France - where clubs are relegated if they compile massive debts. "If a team tries to respect the rules and another one makes still more debts, the competition is unbalanced," said Platini. …

I was absolutely incesnsed by that tw*t's comments which admittedly appeared in the other media before they did on .tv. I was all set to be gracious and feel slightly encouraged by his form against Chelsea, not that I was expecting it to last forever. But god, what he came out with basically equated to "If I can convince these mugs to give me another lucrative deal so I can rest back on my laurels and head for Easy Street again, I'll be sorted. Must start reminding people what I can do." It shows nothing but contempt AND YET - the club website prints his comments - Why? The team behind the site must know what fans are going to make of his thoughtlessness. Surely ther…

I've seen a number of people refer to GH's "lies" in various threads recently. What were they and how do you know they were lies? Saying he talks shit is one thing (and you'll get no argument here) but lying is something else. Elaborate please.

We need him for the moment as cover but what is the point of having him if GH doesn't think he's good enough for the first team yet? We may aswell send him out on loan where he can get first team football and improve. Jones did a solid job, as I expected he would. But if Luzi can't be trusted to do the same when the top 2 keepers are injured why bother? Is he a long term option to when Dudek leaves so then he and Kirkland will fight for the shirt? If so, we may aswell sell Dudek sooner rather than later because we won't get much for him in a couple of seasons? If he's not going to get a game, when the injury crisis is over he should leave, either on loan if th…

http://media.guardian.co.uk/presspublishing/story/0,7495,1119883,00.html From the Guardian The S*n's circulation has fallen to its lowest level in 30 years after dropping nearly 5% in just 12 months, dealing a blow to Rebekah Wade who is this week celebrating a year in the editor's chair. Sales of the tabloid newspaper fell below 3.3 million in December for the first time since January 1974, 4.95% down on the previous year. It reached just 3,277,000, according to audited ABC figures, well down on the previous year but still well ahead of January 1974 when it last fell below the psychologically significant 3 million mark. December is traditionall…

Roux: Cisse Liverpool bound Friday, 09 January 2004 Players: Djibril Cisse Teams: LiverpoolAuxerreAuxerre coach Guy Roux has admitted that star striker Djibril Cisse is set to join Liverpool next summer. The French international was at Liverpool this week to look around the club's training ground and his move to Anfield has been football's worst kept secret. Reds boss Gerard Houllier has made the jet-heeled hit-man his top target for some time and it seems almost certain he will play for Liverpool next season. Roux denied the deal had been finalised, but admitted everything was in place to secure Cisse's arrival on Merseyside. "His transfer ha…

What exactly do people think he would bring to the club? Youve gotta look at what hes acheived. Not much. He hasnt even managed a top club. People will argue Celtic are a big club but the standard of competition they're involved in is piss poor. Add to this the fact O'Neill loves his thuggish players e.g. Hartson, Sutton, Matt Elliott etc. and the long ball to the target man style of play. He'll also insist on bringing his own backroom staff who follow him everywhere which will rip the heart out of the club by losing Thompson, Lee, Rush, Corrigan etc. If we are to replace Houllier surely we must look for a man who has achieved in England, Spain or Ital…

....Robson thinks some of you are muppets too...... Sir Bobby Savages Houllier Critics Liverpool, Friday January 09 2004 Newcastle boss Sir Bobby Robson has launched a blistering attack on 'muppets' who have queued up to criticise Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier in recent weeks. The veteran Toon boss has leapt to the defence of his beleaguered Reds counterpart and has suggested that those who have been baying for the Frenchman's blood know nothing about football. Houllier has come under fire from all and sundry, including Liverpool legends, after a dreadful campaign to date and what looks like yet another underachieving season for the Anfield…

From the BBC's website: Exclusive by Phil McNulty Chief football writer Kenwright is exploring ways to raise cash Everton's directors are considering a new issue of shares to revive the fortunes of the cash-strapped Goodison Park club. Owner Bill Kenwright was already considering a plan put forward by a key figure in Everton's shareholders association in an attempt to raise £15m for the Merseysiders. But it is understood Kenwright is also investigating a shares proposal similar to the mid-90s scheme that revived the fortunes of Scottish giants Celtic. Everton have struggled with massive debts and boss David Moyes admits he will have …

city centre after derby.
by Guest reder- 5 replies

I have been lucky enough to get a ticket to bring my 10 year old nephew along to the bluenose game. As a result of this I have to venture into the city centre straight after the game with the young lad, well 40 mins - 1 hour after the game because it will take that long on the bus. Anyway I generally dont go into the city after games and have never gone in after a derby. I was talking to people at villa about it and I have been given alot of negative info. Basically I have been told to avoid all streets from queens square to lime street to church street. I have also been advised not to wear colours and not to allow the nipper to wear colours. I know the derby atmosphere i…

Gary Mac has resigned as Coventry manager

Gary McAllister has resigned as player-manager of Coventry City so that he can devote time to his family. McAllister recently stepped down on a temporary basis in order to spend time with his family while his wife Denise undergoes treatment for an illness. But he has now left permanently with Eric Black expected to continue to take charge of first-team affairs. McAllister said he had come to the decision "after much consideration and discussion with my family". He added: "I have reached the decision that it would be better to sever all ties with Coventry City at this time so the club can clearly focus on the future. "I would like …

....that he has finally realised he has to deliver? I feel more let down now than before, to be honest. How badly he has played for two years should have been acknowledged by himself and the management before now. Is it right to earn a new contract over the next 5 months and then he can slip back into the comfort zone when he's signed for another 5 years? From .tv Emile Heskey has revealed that he's got to maintain the high standards he set himself against Chelsea and Aston Villa if he's to earn a new contract at Anfield. The Liverpool No.8 has 18 months left on his contract and with Djibril Cisse's arrival in the summer looking a distinct possibility, Heske…

They made hard work of it, but got the result they deserved. Not much free-flowing football, but plenty of effort. Two good performances in succession from H***** (if he makes it three, does the ban get lifted?!). Two sucessive clean sheets. Not brilliant, but a real improvement. And they actually looked like they were playing as a team. Today (especially 2nd half) was the best atmosphere we've had for a while. Just shows how a bit of desire on the pitch can have a big effect on the crowd.
